yes it probably has ear mites, the only ear mite medicine that I know of that works and is safe for cats is available from the vet or 1800petmeds.com (called eradimite) It does contain pyrethrins so there could be an allergic or contact reaction to it. It is safe for kits over 12 weeks of age. that is another reason that you need to call the vet- they may have something that you can use if your kit is younger. any vet will tell you not to put any oil of any kind in their ears, nor should you dig around in there with a q-tip (they will show you the proper and safe way to clean), as both of these things can cause more damage and the oil stuff can mask the problem while making it worse and hard to treat.

When you bring your kitten in for its first vaccines, the vet will give you something for the ear mites. Try to reschedule the appointment for a sooner time so that she doesn't tear her ears apart by then. If they can't get you in soon enough, your best bet is to ask them what they think, intstead of putting something in the ears that could potentially be an irritant. For now, clean the ears with Q-tips as best as you can (try wrapping her in a towel first to protect yourself from little kitten dagger nails!)
