Dark fabric couch, white hair cats. Not a great combo.
Anyone know how you can keep hair from getting all over it?

"don't allow cats on furniture"

Why didn't I think of that! Thanks! I will go tell them now that they aren't allowed there anymore.

LOL it's hard to train a cat to not do ANYTHING, especially get on your comfy furniture once it's already been allowed.
Anyway, I see your problem. My best suggestion for you is to brush them DAILY, and vacuum the couch daily as well. I know it's time consuming, but there's not really much else you can do. My grandma used to have a couple of smaller quilts that she'd set at one end of the couch just for the cat - that way the cat would lay on the quilt and not on her actual couch, the quilt could easily be thrown in the washing machine every few weeks with the rest of her laundry. I don't know how practical that is, though, not knowing the age of your cats, how long you've had them, or how stubborn they are! Because I know cats certainly can be.
You MAY save yourself some time on brushing (and therefore vacuuming) by going to a pet store and buying this brush for your cats called the Furminator. They have them in different sizes for dogs and cats. I work at a pet store where we sell those, and ALL I've heard are wonderful things about it (I don't have one yet, but I don't have a problem with my cats generally). The only downside to it is that it's VERY expensive. I think the dog one is around $60. However, if you can afford it, the only thing I've heard about it is that it's worth it - not one bad complaint, and that's unusual.
Good luck, hope this helped!

Simple way would be to use the barrier method. Get a fabric throw (a small blanket) and lay it where the cat would be laying. If they like the cushions, lay the blanket on the cushions and flip it up when you want to sit down. If they lay on the back of the couch, lay it along that. Fold the blanket away when company comes over, and your couch will be hairless for longer than if you used a sticky roller to remove fur off it.

You can put a light coloured throw on the couch and keep washing it all the time, or otherwise you have to keep hoovering the couch all the time.

Don't listen to Peter F, just make sure you keep your cat in at night. It is too dangerous for cats to be out at night.

If you couch cushion are movable arrange them in such a way that the cat cannot get up on it. Or put something large and bulky on the couch when you are not using it.

I use these things called x mats. You can get them thru www.jbpet.com
I also use a Pet hair roller brush you know the thing with the sticky tape. The x mat is great tho.I use them on my kitchen table as well.Don't want Kitty on dinner table.Good thing about them is they are thin and flat and you can hide them under the couch when Company comes.
