My fiance and I own 2 kittens. There 5 and 6 months old and are from different litters. They have fleas and ear mites. We have taken them to the vet, got them pet insurance and since we got them at 6.5 weeks we have been to the vet every single Saturday with a problem with fleas. We have tried everything from flea sampoo to flea collars to frontline ...But nothing is working. What can we do?

Flea shampoos kill the fleas on the pet at the time, but don't continue to kill or repel once the bath is over. Flea collars do not work and are often more hazardous to the cats than to the fleas. Frontline works well for fleas, but not on earmites. If you are seeing alot of fleas still you need to treat the environment too. One flea, once engorged with blood, can drop hundreds of eggs into the carpet, bedding, and furniture. The eggs hatch and the larvae turn into a whole new generation of fleas, and they do it quick. Check with your vet or local home improvement store about a spray that is safe for you and your kitties. In the past I used Raid flea killer with success. You can add moth crystals or moth balls to the vacuum bag or canister. Vacuum the house often and empty the canister and get it out of the house. I have four cats and a rottie and they all go in and out and I never see a flea. I use revolution on them, from the vet, it kills fleas, ear mites, deworms for intestinal parasites, and prevents heartworm infestations. I also treat the yard with Sevin dust. Hope this helps, best wishes.

Any vet should be able to sort this problem out in ten seconds flat - if they can't, you need to find another vet pronto!

Get some Revolution, because it treats ear mites and fleas. Get it on the SKIN of the cats, not the fur. You also need to pick up some treatment for your house because until you sort out the fleas living in the environment, you will always see fleas.

Do NOT wash your cats - flea shampoos don't work, and they will inactivate the Frontline or whatever spot-on you use. And don't put flea collars on them either, these don't work and are sometimes dangerous!!

Seriously, if your vets can't sort out a basic problem like fleas and earmites, go to another!

You need to treat your house more than the cats to get rid of all the fleas, eggs and larvae that are probably living in your carpets. I had the same problem 2 months ago and used flea foggers in the bedrooms and living room. Make sure you hover the whole house frequently paying special attention to corners and under skirting boards. You can spray your carpets and your cats beds with flea sprays as well, just make sure they contain IGR (Insect growth regulators) which will prevent the eggs from becoming fleas. All these you can buy at any pet shop.
You can also use 'Stronghold' which is a spot on solution, instead of 'Frontline', for your cats against fleas, earmites and internal worms.

Why cant the vet sort out the fleas? This is the most common problem vets have to deal with in cats and dogs. Try Frontline Cat, you can purchase it on the Internet now much cheaper than vets charges. You have to treat your home too, sprays are available from any pet shop , and the vaccum is the best weapon. Good luck with the fleas nothing worse!!

you need Revolution, it cures fleas and ear mites. I would change vets if your vet has not recommened it. It will also clear your house of the fleas as well.
If your vet doesn't carry it, you can get a perscrition of it and order it from 1800petmeds.com.

You need reviolution and the problem will go away..I promise you. Also I would look into getting a different vet.

Best home remedy:

take an empty 1 gallon milk jug rinsed clean

put in1 large bottle baby shampoo(keeps from burning eyes)
1 cup rubbing alcohal
1 bottle blue dawn dish detergent
fill rest of way with water

Put on kitten and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse well.

My Brother in law gave me this recipe. My whole family uses it on cats and dogs, puppies and kittens. It has never been unhealthy for any of our pets and always works. best of luck!
