Cats - July 2007

I heard someone talking about the issue, that sounds tragic... I guess it coudl happen to all sorts of creatures in our non-vegan world... to picture a bird eating a cat, that is just horrible... I guess it's just as bad as pictureing a cat eating a bird or a rabbit or a human eating a bird or a cat or a rabbit or what have you...

But what would your initial response be if you saw a BIRD carrying away a cat?

I've been to his office before, of course. The dogs go nuts and the cats yowl all day, but he insists it is better not to feed them when they are in his clinic... He says it is better for their immune systems not to offer them any food at all... Of course, when they do manage to steal food, he calls them moochers. People say he's a good vet. Do you think he is right?

My cat has developed a very large ulcer on the stump of its amputated back leg. I took it to the vet and he charged me over $300 to tell me to leave it open, and wash it with salt water. He gave some antibiotics as well, which didnt work. the whole visit was only 15mins. I cant afford another $300 to take her back.. Someone said that Valium will make it go to sleep and not wake up...Is this true...or what other method might work, other than shooting it.

I know you'd usually leave a baby cat be outside, but she/he was right on train tracks, I couldn't just leave her/he there. Even If I was soposed to, I can't go back and change what I've done. So, what should we do? For tonight were planning to keep him in a box (we already found out he/she likes being cuddled up in a blanket, she/he has fallen right asleep).

Questions:
How would you feed her/him?
How do you tell It's gender?
What's the best way to take care of him/her?
About how old is he/she?

We won't be keeping it for a long time, we might end up giving ito my uncle. But for now, what should we do?

I rescued a kitten, it's eyes are open and it can eat from a bowl but it is severly malnourished. I am treating an eye infection and ear mites. I'm feeding it kitten food in whole milk. It's appetite seems good but it has diarhea that gets all over him in his home I've made for him (which includes a litter box). It's little belly seems bloated too. I was trying to avoid an expensive vet bill. I usually do my own animals shots and things at home. But I'm afraid I might need professional help with this one. Any advice or suggestions for me would greatly be appreciated. thanks.

Also I started reintroducing him to it and even if he goes he tries to eat the litter. Is there something wrong with him or is he just confused?

I have a 2 month old kitten whom I hand raised from day 1. He is very thin and I let him feed freely on dry kitten food all day and night as he wants. He eats well but won't gain weight. I'm afraid to give him any other food for fear that it will upset his delicate young stomach. Any ideas or suggestions? Would a little adult canned cat food be a bad idea as a supplement? Thanks for any help.

I have been feeding her KMR and she was extremely constipated for three days. I finally called the vet this morning and he told me to take a syringe and give her a warm water enema with 3cc's of water until she finally went. I have been putting Karo syrup in her milk. I have diluted her milk by 1 part to 3 instead of 1 to 2 like the can says. I have also been adding Bene Bac for digestion. She had mucus and blood in her stools earlier in the week and we figured she had coccidia so the vet gave me Albon for her. She is eating well and thriving. Her eyes are open. We estimate that she is between 2 and 3 weeks old. any suggestions on how to avoid any further epsiodes of constipation??? Am I doing everything I can at this point? She has gone from eating 2cc's every 2 hours to 10 cc's every 4 hours now.

our other cat was a stray cat that we have been feeding for about seven years now, we call him felix, he used to come to the back door rain or snow and wait to i left him out his food and then disapear again. we have patched him up,ears cut dropped flea drops on him, over the years but about two months ago he dissapeared for a week, when he turned up he was in a really bad way, cut to bits eye swollen skinny so we rushed him to the vets, a week later, £150 later, had to have his eye removed, had to keep in in our shed, or should i say cat pad. for a month to heal, he now lives with us and is a very very happy fat cat, thing is he now thinks he has to come indoors to use the litter tray to go to the loo, and then gos out on his mary way, whats happened our stray cat? we love him to bits now thou, and so happy he has decided to stay with all of us, two cats. two cocker spanials and the fish.

For over a year my neighbour has been putting her rubbish bin's on my front lawn (verge, council land) when they have heaps of room on their own property which has a larger frontage. The previous owners wouldn't have dreamed of doing such a thing. My property frontage is quite small, so it looks so obvious, when other bins are placed along side mine. I have tried to place mine very close to the edge of the boundary, and still hers is plonked right next to mine. This has caused problems with the garbage truck, and often, when he has to back up to turn around, my bins have been run over, split and usually found laying on the ground. Is this just arogance or just plain nasty?
