Q. Should I feed my pet milk?

A. Dogs and cats do not have the proper enzymes to properly break down the sugar in milk which is called 'lactose.' You may have heard of people who are lactose-intolerant. They are also missing these digestive enzymes. If the proper enzymes are not present, the lactose remains undigested and tends to ferment in the intestine and cause diarrhea. Some pets can tolerate a little milk, others, none at all. If your pet enjoys and appears to tolerate milk, you can give your pet small amounts. Better yet, give your pet one of the special cat or dog milks on the market that have had the lactose removed.

The pet store sells the right kind of milk that you should give to the kitten because if you give the kitten the milk that you drink the kitten will get diarrhea.

When a kitten is weaned, she no longer needs her mother's milk. This applies for all mammals, including humans. Cats also do not need to drink the milk of other species.

You NEVER give your kitten or cat or dog cow's milk.

There is KMR kitten formula, but I just gave mine water cause they were old enough to be weaned when I got them so there was NO NEED for any kind of milk.

NEVER EVER give a cat regular milk. They can not process the fat content and it will cause vomiting and diarrhea.
There are various brands of cat milk out there, which are a safe alternative.

I don't think that it matters how old they are, if they like it and drink it, then that's ok. It's a fallacy that cats should drink milk only, my cat prefers to drink water, won't touch milk.

You should never give regular milk. Most cats are lactose intolerant. It could really upset her tummy.

be careful when giving your kitten milk. there are some who are lactose intolerant. our first cat was about 7 weeks old when she had her first sipof moo juice (cow's milk) i had gotten a glass, went to sit in floor and looked over and there was lacey's little muzzle in the glass. had to laugh. her little tongue was going so fast :) she didn't have any problem tolerating it. if you really want to give your cat some, give her only a little until you see how it is tolerated in her system
