I have a 2 month old kitten whom I hand raised from day 1. He is very thin and I let him feed freely on dry kitten food all day and night as he wants. He eats well but won't gain weight. I'm afraid to give him any other food for fear that it will upset his delicate young stomach. Any ideas or suggestions? Would a little adult canned cat food be a bad idea as a supplement? Thanks for any help.

I forgot to add that I wormed him with Pancur 3 weeks ago.

Does he have energy and is he playing a lot? It is not abnormal for a kitten to be thin at this age if it is very busy. A vet check may help to rule out worms and any reasons for a thin kitten, plus the vet can advise you on what to supplement it with if necessary. Most canned food says it's for kittens/cats. I'd try to find a kitten formula canned food to add to the dry and see if this doesn't help if he checks out okay or has already been in and is fine. This has more calories and nutrition for a little peanut.

I hope the kitten has been to the vet for worming and shots and weighing. Check the kitten's weight again to see if he is gaining.
Adult canned food would be a great idea. Wellness, Innova, Natural Balance, Avoderm, Like Your Chops, Felidae, Prairie (very pricey), Artemis and Evanger's are all excellent choices for wholesome nutritious meat.
The kitten will be much happier on meat than dry food.

You can give can cat food - that would probably help. Just lay the dry food out all day for him to nibble on - then at a set time give him a small can of kitten food - not the crappy Friskies stuff. Go and splurge and spend the extra .15 for the good stuff. ;) The canned food helps for the added nutrients and is easier to digest.
Try kitten Iams or Eukanuba.

My cat is 1 years old and skinny. Its just the type of cat he is. hes about 2 feet and only about 5 inches wide. He's healthy and playful. Also, dont give him adult food (it doesnt have the nutrients a growning kitten needs.)

ive had tons of cats and we've gone through a few litters sometimes with this very problem......it may just be the runt of the litter, try giving the kitten chicken or beef flavored baby food...the cats usually really like it and it helps them with a calorie boost...also try cat foods developed just for kittens (wet and dry) but if the kitty seems skinny after that then i aggree to have him/her checked out by a vet to be safe

I always make sure wet and dry cat food is avail. to my kittens when they are growing up.
Have you had him to the vet? You know, he may have worms and that will prevent him from gaining weight. Sometimes the problem is below the surface. I'd give your vet a call to have a checkup on him.
Better safe than sorry.

Adding wet food would be fine. Worms could be sapping your kitten of it's nutrition, also fleas if there are a lot of them.

There are other parasites that the Panacur may not treat, such as coccidia and giardia. He really is old enough for his first vet visit and stool check, vaccines, etc. Also, have him checked for FELV/FIV viruses, as these can be passed on from the mother.
