Also I started reintroducing him to it and even if he goes he tries to eat the litter. Is there something wrong with him or is he just confused?

If the litter is scented that may be the problem. Get unsented litter if you are using scented.

My cat stopped using the box because of this.

When a cat has litter box problems, there are lots of things that could be at issue. The first thing you should do is take kitty to the vet right away. Avoiding the litter box can be an indication that he's unwell. Once you get a clean bill of health, then consider changing the litter you're using. Some cats really hate scented litter, for example. If you have other cats using the same litter, this guy may need his own private box (it's generally a good idea to have one litter box per cat). Consider moving the litterbox, too. If the spot where you have it is very busy, lots of traffic, it might not be private enough. Finally, consider whether there are any stresses on your cat. Have you introduced a new pet recently? Changed his routine or environment? Food?

Hopefully it'll be one of these simple things. Praise your kitty when he uses the litter box. I used to give mine a bit of tuna. After awhile they would go to the litter box and call me when they were hungry. LOL.

The first, and most important thing you should do is to get your cat checked out by a vet. This could indicate a health issue.

Second, is the litter box always clean? Some cats refuse to use a dirty litter box.

Eating the litter? I really have no idea about that. Maybe try a different litter?

Did you change the litter? If so go back to the old litter.

If not lock him in a large kennel or small room to reacquaint him with the litter pan.

Might have him checked by a vet to rule out any urinary tract problems.

Feed cat food for urinary tract health.

I just got my cat to use the litter box. every time you see him/her about to go put him in the litter box. (put litter box in a closed room like a bathroom so he has no choice) sounds to me as if he like the litter nothing wrong just a silly cat.

Okay, is the litter giving off any kind of scents. You need to take him to the vet and tell him your problems. Or you need to give him canned tuna.
