No,some cats will let their kittens nurse for 5 or 6 months. You need to get the mom spayed, though, and the kitten, too. There are too many cats in the world, now, dying in shelters and on the streets.

That's actually normal, kittens will still nurse even though they can eat dry food. Eventually the mother will get tired of the kitten nursing, and she will no longer let it nurse.

If the mom isn't fixed and has access to males, she is most likely pregnant again. Most cats have two and sometimes three litters a season. It really has nothing to do with the nursing kitten, they are just enjoying each other. We have ferals that nurse for months, trade off and continue until the next batch is born.

I agree with Topanga. I think it also depends on the momma cat. The kitten will keep trying until the mom says "enough." It doesn't mean your cat is pregnant again.

Usually it is because they were not weaned properly or taken away from mom too early. If baby has been around mama the whole time, it is something she will grow out of.
Sounds like you need to have mama spayed, if you don't know if she could be pregnant again.

Kittens will drink until you make them stop.
And mothers will produce until the kitten(s) stop.
You should make the kitten(s) stop. Its better on the mother cats body. It was like my cat wasnt eating, becouse she was so thin. We warmed her and were going to get shots done and have her spayed But it was to late.
So good luck!
My cats kittens sucked the life out of my cat. She ended up dying from mal nutrition. So I think you should make them stop.It was like my cat wasnt eating, becouse she was so thin. We warmed her and were going to get shots done and have her spayed But it was to late.

no it's not. to both q's. the kitten is probably still doing it because it feels good to him/her. like babies like to suck on things even if milk doesn't come out. (sorry eww) my cat's kitten did the same thing. don't worry, he'll/she'll get over it.
