i have a huge emergency/dilemma: i am in china right now where there is only one western-trained vet in the whole city who turned out to be a complete cad and bully. how safe might it be for my approx 5month old kitten to travel by air back to canada (11hr) if he is now sick? Mango passed his medical examination on the 28th and was screened for FPV.
symptoms: vommiting, loss of appetite (we are now force feeding him) and lethargy. the vet prescribed him some medicine to treat a general infection (antibiotics and anti-nausea)
he was a lovely, active little kitten until last week. last wed evening, we found what we now suspect was remains of his regualar kibble. he was drinking normally but thursday and friday refused to eat his kibble though ate human food eagerly (meat, egg, bread, even some sweetcorn he stole from my salad). saturday morning we noticed him throwing clear saliva and also found the remains of the egg he was fed last night. we brought him to the vet immediately - his temperature was just a tad high, stool a bit soft and stomach a bit gassy but otherwises normal. no obstructions or knots could be felt in his guts. when we got home, he gulped down the tuna we gave him and then threw up everything immediately. the second round i fed him slowly and after half an hour he threw up a little. otherwises he was still fairly active up to this point despite vommiting occasionally though obviously complaining lots! and drinking water normally.
on sunday, he suddenly became very listless, refused to touch tuna or egg offered to him. we started force-feeding him through syringe with a watered-down eggyolk mixture (can only manage around 10ML). he usually throws up a little back of it, and was drinking noticably less water by himself so we also try to get a couple syringes in him. vommited total of 4X
Monday was the same though abit better with drinking water himself but still very lethargic and quiet, vommited 2x after feeding.
Tuesday (today) the vet released his health certificate but is otherwises disinterested in checking up on Mango before we are due to fly on saturday.. he was a bit more active this morning but still very lethargic. this morning was dry heaving/hacking but did not actually vomit.
i cant change my flight because i myself am having health complications and need to go home asap.
