Cats - March 2007

I have two outdoor cats, possible three more, than need to be spayed and/or neutered. They are my pets, not just feral cats, but they live STRICTLY outdoors. We are having kittens like crazy at our house, so it needs to be done, but I'd like to know a little bit before I have it done. Ok, they haven't had their shots yet, so do I have to have that done quite a few days/months before they have the surgery or can it be the day of? How much does that usually cost - our vet does not participate in any voucher program (I live in a small town community :-( ) Do they have to stay at the vets overnight? Is the surgery usually a pretty "safe" procedure? And, are there any good websites for this subject??
Thanks for the help!!

i have two mother cats. The first one, Tabby, had kittens about 3 weeks ago. The second, Sweetie, had kittens about a week ago. Tabby had 6 kittens, all of which lived. Sweetie had 5 kittens, of which 3 died. Sweetie has taken one of Tabby's kittens and is nursing it. The two cats are not related, although Sweetie would be the aunt to the kitten she took. (the father is her brother) Tabby really doesn't seem to mind. The cat that Sweetie took was a runt and wasn't getting that much milk. It is getting pretty fat, now, with Sweetie. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Is it ok to leave the kitten with Sweetie? Or should I put the kitten back with it's mother?

They seem OK, but they do eat the one of the recalled food brands, I can't tell if the sku is a recalled or not as its already been eaten in the last few weeks. I'm confused. What are the symptoms? I love my cats and would die if anything happened to them.

I pick him up (all 15 lbs *ugh*) to see out the window. I make steps so he can reach things, but fear making them high enough for the lowest window (3 1/2 ' from floor).

Any advice welcome. He (LinusB.Bootz) is happy, but I want him to have as happy & natural a life as possible.

Also, has anyone ever successfully bathed a cat? Linus smells, but the one time I tied bathing him he freaked and I nearly lost the provervbial pound of flesh! :-O --well. an ounce..

My neighbors have a 7 year old indoor/ outdoor cat who has been very lethargic the past 2 days.It started vomiting today. it does not have it's shots and will be going to the vets tomorrow. No speeches please as it is not my cat and belongs to an elderly couple who love it very much. I've checked a few sites but cannot find an answer. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? It has no sores and does not look like it has been injured.

What's your opinion about this question?

My 3 cats (indoor housecats) all have wonderful, shiny, soft, healthy-looking coats, (which also shed quite a bit). Now, all the other cats I have seen in shelters, as well as my own friends' houses and relatives, all have dull, almost dry feeling fur. I was wondering about a few different things, like:

-Is there a special diet that makes the fur softer and shinier?

-Does age have anything to do with the condition of the coat?

-If the cat goes outside daily, or just a little, does that change how the coat looks at all?

Any comments would be helpful. :)

Could it be that the manufacturers haven't fully investigated the situation, and just maybe the dry food has also been contaminated? My otherwise healthy cat - suddently became ill and past away cause kidney failure. I used a dry product by one of the manufacturers listed on the list and purchased it in Walmart. I am freaking out that I could have fed my Cat contaminated food that caused her to get fatally ill. Can someone please let me know if they have heard anything about this. I have had no luck and haven't had a response from the company. Thank you.

If you have seen any of my answers or questions on here, you will already know that we lost our Rocky to severe renal failure a week ago. Luckily our female cat eats a different kid of pet food not on the recall and never even bothered Rocky's food. Anyway, Trixie is meowing all the time, looking around and I know she is missing Rocky badly. She was a kitten when we brought her into our home and Rocky was already here. SInce my husband and I work a lot of hours, she is I am sure pretty lonely. So, now we are on a quest for another cat or kitten and I am unsure of the age of cat/kitten to get. May I have thoughts please?

I just adopted a kitty two days ago and she has already gotten sick. It first started out with sneezing and then the 2nd night, she started drooling and sneezing. The 3rd day, she's slept all day and only had the occasional sneeze and the occasional drool. I'm not sure if I should bring her to a vet or let her try to fight it. I'm concerned that the added stress of bringing her to a vet will agrivate things. Please let me know your opinion.

I have two momma cats and six kittens living in a room of my house(don't ask--it's only temporary). Anyhow, I have a problem with the curious little ones getting behind the door, and sometimes getting pinched when I open it. It's happened a few times, and I've felt really bad about it. I worry so much about stepping on one of them, because they run all over the place, and hide in odd spaces. How can I prevent my kittens from hanging around behind the door? No sick answers, please. I don't appreciate it, and I will report them.
