Our cat is having trouble breathing and has lost his appetite. We're taking him to the vet tomorrow, but what can we do tonight to keep him comfortable?

Keep him warm, give him a ton of affection. It might not be pneumonia but an allergy or upper respiratory infection. Cats are prone to that. I'd be careful of the humidifier because if it is pneumonia, you don't want kitty breathing in extra moisture! Best of luck!

A humidifier might help. Keep him in one room with the humidifier. The moist air should help him breath. You can force water with a syringe or a teaspoon so he doesn't get dehydrated. It isn't good that he has stopped eating. Hopefully it is because he can't smell and that's why he isn't eating. Please make sure you do take him to the vet's tomorrow. Also finish every drop of medicine the vet prescribes for your cat. If there isn't any improvement within 36 hours call him back! Good luck with your cat.

Moist air can help him breathe. And don't give up on his condition. I fostered a cat from our local shelter with pneumonia. They took an xray and found her lungs full of fluid. They wanted to euthanize her on the spot. Instead I took her home, and she slowly improved (on medication). She returned to health and was adopted. She wasn't eating either at first, but eventually did.

Keep him warm and comfy and keep his litter box and water nearby so he only needs to take a few steps to get to them. He is using all his extra energy just to breathe so don't stress him any further.
DON'T give him any human remedies- animals can't metabolize things like we do and it causes more harm when people give OTC meds to pets.
Reassure him and check on him frequently. Talk to him to soothe him if it seems to help, otherwise leave him alone and quiet. If you have kids, keep them away from him right now.
Good luck- hope he is better!

If he isn't eating and is having trouble breathing, he is critical and may not last to see the vet tomorrow and needs urgent veterinary hospitalisation.
