So far, it's just the wet and pouch food.
Pretty much all the foods on that list are low quality, but I doubt that they would cause an acutely fatal disease.
But, if you feel that your cat may have been affected, fill out the proper forms and let them know.
I'm sorry for your loss.

This is a very specific recall that only affects the food made using wheat gluten they purchased from a new supplier...
so it's limited to "cuts and gravy" style pet food in cans and pouches manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007 at two facilities because those are the only ones it was used in.... now remember though- just because your food wasn't affected, does not mean it isn't to blame for your pet's failed health. It just means his death had nothing to do with *this specific* recall.
Frankly- most of the brands on that list are crappy food made with crappy ingredients and I wouldn't feed them to a stray.
With dog food- you get what you pay for... if the food is inexpensive, it's because the manufacturer cut corners.
I hear people tell me all the time "but he loves it and he looks great"... well of course he loves it... they spray it with fats, sugars, salts, and other flavor enhancers to make sure he does.... and as far as looking good goes- that's bullarky. a good looking dog can still die of cancer, kidney failure, etc... and all too often these problems are directly related to nutrition - or lack there of.
I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I know your heart must be broken. :(
*edited to add:
I appologize for not being clearer. Only the foods listed were made with the suspect wheat gluten... this means dry food was not made with it. This doesn't mean it may not be recalled later if they find out there is another or different problem. It just means right now- they are only recalling specific wet foods that used the bad wheat gluten.
They're not saying all wheat gluten is bad... just this batch they used.

I don't know, but My cat is still at the Vet's office after I took it in, in the middle of the night Last Tues. It was horrible. He was vomiting blood and then bloody bowel movements. I heard about the recall later in the week. I wonder if that is what the problem is. Their first guess was kidney problems, but now I don't know yet. They took an x-ray and found no obstructions. His blood work will be back tomorrow. I don't know when he will come home. They do believe that it was caused by something he ate. I am going to mention this recall to the vet tomorrow and see if that is a possibility. I need more information about the different brands of food. I do know that it is from the Menu Food Company. I read that in a newspaper article. I wonder how long this has been going on.

Oh no! So sad and I amd truly sorry that your kitty passed away. As I understand the recall issue, the ingredient that is under suspicion is "wheat gluten" which Menufoods obtained from a recent contractor - this supplier has since been dropped (I should say). Wheat gluten is used in various wet cat canned food as a protein source. May I ask what the dry food brand was that you suspect had something to do with your kitty's kidney failure? All this is trully upsetting me.

I'm trying to find out an answer to this question too. 2 weeks ago my dog died of kidney failure suddenly. She eats a dry food made by one of the manufacturers listed. When I took her to the vet they kept asking me if she might have gotten into someting, if she ate something she shouldn't have. Howerver, the manufacturers do say it is limited to the moist.

I recently lost my cat 2/27/07 and the cat food I fed him was only Wal - mart brand pouches. I am absolutely sure this was the cause of his death and so was the Vet. So get rid of that cat food ASAP!!!!!!!!! Sincerely Sorry about your loss

So far, it's the canned and pouches that have gravy. However, wait and see - once they investigate more and find out the critical ingredient, they will know more too. So sorry about your cat....
