my cat just had kittens..
my first question is:

why are the kittens opening there mouths and making a weird breathingish almost like a gagging noise..

and also
the mum cat stretches out her claws and then shrinks them back in and stretches them out again constantly while th kittens are feeding..

and should they all have opened there eyes by now..its been a week and a half..and 2 have both there eyes open, 1 has 1 eye open and the other one is only lil tiny but open .. it makes it look like it has down syndrome or something similar..is that normal? and the last one hasnt opened its eyes yet at all and there is yellow crusty stuff over the slits of its unopened eyes..

is it ok to help the open there eyes ?

We have a new cat and he has started sneezing and has a wet nose. Is this something that will get better on its own or do we need to see the vet. The cat is acting fine, no discharge from his eyes and eating and drinking well.

Just adopted a cat from the shelter and after a day he started sneezing and is nose is all wet. I did some research about cats getting colds, but his eyes are clear and he is acting fine. Could it just be an allergy from exploring all the new corners and stirring up dust?

We adopted a cat from the local humane society on Friday, on Saturday he started sneezing and his nose was running, by that evening he had thrown up and had diareha. It is Monday night now and although he hasn't thrown up again, he still has the other symptoms. This is our first cat, could this be something serious? We have a 7 day trial period, did we get a cat that is seriously ill and now our kids are going to be heartbroken?

My 2 year cat, over the last week, seems to be eating, but I have noticed she has lost quite a bit of weight and I am terribly worried. I am now watcing her, she is an indoor cat and the only thing I have done it let her need 2 foster kittens that I wormed, could she have worms? I am terribly worried,I just noticed this more tonight.
I will take her to the vet tomorrow

I have a 5 month old tiger-stiped kitten, that was just neutered last week. Before surgery he was very active, and getting a little aggresive toward the older two cats. But, still he acted full of energy. Now his personality has changed, he is laying around a lot, but still eating a good bit. Doesn't feel like he has fever. We have always spayed/neutered all of our pets, but in theis case, I feel like we may have destroyed him...He just isn't the same cat.

Took my 10 year old male cat to vet today because it looked as though he was breathing rather shallow and I noticed he had been losing weight rapidly. Vet examined and said breathing was okay...just more "noticable" due to 4 pound weight loss. Temp was fine, everyhting else seemed okay too. Vet said his last blood work from May 06 had elevated thyroid readings and at this point vet thinks his thyroid is shot. He will have blood work result on Wednesday and has put him on a daily pill. If that doesn't work he will adjust the meds as needed. My question is...I have never heard of a cat having a thyroid problem. Anyone have any experience with this? I've had cats all my life - this is a first!

My vet just had me put my cat on soft food with low-ash because he was having bladder infections. (It the water in the food helps that problem I guess). But now, my cat is having very loose stools. Will he ever get used to the new diet?

I live in a house with five cats (and I hate it- but it's a long story why I live with them so I'll spare you). I am so damn sick of cleaning up hair and barfed up hair balls. I was considering shaving the two long haired cats but wasn't sure if it's a good idea.

While I can't stand the damn things, I don't want to do anything harmful to them. I live in the southwest so we have warm weather from mid march all the way through mid september. My concern is that if I shave them, their hair won't grow back in time for the cold weather in fall. They are all indoor cats but I still wouldn't want them to get cold and be miserable.

Is shaving your cats a good idea?

First of all, I am a 100% dog lover. We rescued this cat we've had for about 1 1/2 years now. She is not very affectionate. Kind of a prissy attitude and she loves to wake me up in the middle of the night. She's not a bad cat. She's just not a dog and I think I try to make one out of her. How can I love my cat for what she is?

My cat has really long, black and fluffy hair. During summer he lays around inside or outside in the shade too hot to do anything. He's usually very active in other seasons
