I'd suggest Petsmart. They should have something. Alittle over three years ago, I moved to the UK from the States. I shipped two cats over a month before I came. I used a local pet shipper. They were put into very strong carriers. You could go that route.

Most pet stores will sell good carriers. VariKennel and Kennel Cab are good brands; I brought about 15 animals back from overseas in them and have never had a problem.

I put pillow cases filled with cedar chips and sewn shut in the carriers--figured if the cat/dog peed, it would soak in and not smell too bad. For water, you can freeze water in one of the carrier bowls and clip it to the door; it will melt gradually and she can lick it if she likes. You can tape a bag of dry food to the top of the carrier; the airline workers are generally pretty nice to the animals.

Be sure there is ID on the kennel and the cat has a breakaway collar and tags on.

Good luck!

The best brand is Vari Kennel. you can buy at Petsmart and Petco or online just make sure they are Vari Kennel (not Vari kennel Deluxe they have the wrong closures) Here is some pictures of how to make cheaper carrier safer http://www.dryfur.com/dial_latch.htm but since you are planning to buy new just make sure and get the ones with wing nuts and bolts.
Also here is a Free Checklist on our site on how to prepare the carrier for a safe Dry trip http://www.dryfur.com/airline_checklist.htm
And you are right the no. 1 cause of cat injury loss and death while cat is being transported is faulty pet carrier. Here are some actual reports http://www.dryfur.com/pet_airline_incidents.htm

I use "Pet Taxi" brand of cat carrier. It's made of harneded pastic (the body) but the doors are made of steel and they are lockable. It is strong but light weight. This is the cat carrier my cat goes into when we travel overseas. Very sturdy and safe. You can buy one at Petco or Petsmart. ake sure that the carrier is big enough for your cat to stand and lay down in it comfortably.

I;m pretty sure you can take your cat into the plane cabin with you if it is a smaller carrier. That would be better, the pets in baggage aren't always handled very well. In fact, sometimes terrible. Check with the airline about that.

I would suggest going on line and looking at some upscale pet stores. Just google for pet carriers and I'm sure you will find something that will fit the bill. I agree, nothing is too good for your baby.

i in my view might take her with you. I actual have a cat myself and faster or later interior the destiny i might somewhat choose to visit canada and might maximum doubtly take her with me, besides the undeniable fact that i even have an opposite tale. whilst i replaced into 8 i moved from england to scotland (some 12hrchronic) and on the time we had a cat (approximately 12yrs previous) and my mum thought that he does not cope with the form quite because of fact the automobile replaced into overcrowded sufficient so somewhat she gave him the the RSPCA (its like a house for the rescue cats that are finally re-homed) on the time although i in simple terms went alongside with in spite of the actuality that now i in my view think of he might have made the form. the sorrowful element is although they stated if my mum phoned they might tell her if he have been effectively re-homed etc and whilst she did phoned they stated they could not tell her something! besides the undeniable fact that it replaced right into an prolonged time in the past now... so in case you think of that bodily your cat will stay to tell the tale extra advantageous with than with out you - then decide for it! i be attentive to my cat is going loopy even whilst in in simple terms on a 2 week holiday - lol!

Go to a good pet store, PetSmart, PetCo, Pet Supply Plus. Any of them will have very good, sturdy cages that will last any plane trip. They are not cheap, but they are good.
