I see a lot of blue jays, robins, all kinds of pegions and crows everyday by the hundreds, year around, but "red cardinals" only once in a while during winter months, does anyone know why, and is it the same where you live? I live in Houston,Tex. are the mostly in the rural areas?

My 2 birds are healthy, eat, and chirp all day long. But they cant stop plucking their own feathers. Is this common? They have bald spots on parts of their body. Should i be concerned?

I want a Green Cheek Conure, Specifically in Cinnamon Turqoise... a breeder offered a Pyhurrias? Spelling? What do these look like? Since I can't get the spelling, I'm having a hard time finding a picture online.

I have an oranged winged amazon parrot who has good and bad days. I rescued him from a house just over a year ago where he was kept in a small cage in a room on his own with no interaction from anyone. Once I got him home I purchased him a larger cage more suitable for a parrot. Which he seemed to appreciate as he could spread his wings properly. He is obsessed with the telly and prefers human food to his own.But he wont let us handle him or touch him and when you go near him he goes to bite you. On several occassions he has drawn blood. He is also very distructive - toys in his cage, wall paper, picture frames - anything he can get his beak near.
He has moments where he does nothing but screech and boy can he screech. He is a real character though making crying sounds when covered up at night.
I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions how to work with him or if another parrot to keep him company is an option??

My bird Che Che, gets on the top of her cage and lays flat. She even lays her head down. I've allways had birds, but never seen one do this. It's cute.

This is a medical issue I have never been faced with, until now. I took in two love birds recently and GreenJeans laid 1 egg late tuesday. Just 1. Previous owner told me they both lay eggs all the time. I knew this was coming because they have been flying around gathering paper. I peeked in on the nest today and still just one egg. Inspection of her vent appears that there is still an egg in there. Cannot see the egg just swelling, no discoloration. about the same size of the egg that is in the nest. She seems okay. She is flying around, have not witnessed a lot of feeding activity. She is perky, seems happy, no drifting, she is not Lethargic in any way. Her flight is a little heavy but she manages it well. How long does it take to get them out? Is it just swelling from passing the egg? Do I have a problem here? Pheonix where are you. :)

The pigeon-eating pelican in St James' park yesterday made me wonder what happens to the feathers? I imagine they're indigestible, but if the pelican vomited then surely the vomit would get stuck in its pouch? How do pelicans get rid of undesirable objects from their stomachs?

but she screams like she's being murdered and tries to fly away. This morning she bit her tongue and it bled a little. I don't want to traumitize her so I haven't been as regular about it as I should. She never had a shower or bath before coming home 3 weeks ago. Also, for breakfast, all she wants is either eggs or cold cereal (a mix of granola, flax flakes and cheerios) is this an okay breakfast? For supper she eats a veggie mix and a little baby food like pasta and sauce. At night she will only eat if spoon fed. She's so cute, she puts herself to bed at 6:00pm in her sleeping cage. I plan on having her forever and want her to be the best bird she can be. Also a note to Pheonix, thanks so much for the link to N'Kisi, what a smarty. Your knowledge is of great value to me.
