One of his eyes is swollen shut - the other, he blinks alot. These are the only symptoms of his being sick, he still is eating and pooping regularly. This only happened today, he was perfectly fine yesterday. I read that ornithosis/psittacosis is also called parrot fever and is transmittable to humans and shows up in humans as a flu and/or pneumonia. I recently had pneumonia, so i'm wondering if that was caused by my bird. This sounds very serious, and i'm getting sort of scared. I love my bird, and I don't want to get rid of him, but if i'm putting the rest of the household in danger, i don't see many options. Please let me know what you know about this disease. I've put a heat lamp on him, and i've just recently started using a UV bulb during the day. Please help. :(

He's about 15 weeks old. When i put my hand in the cage with some spinach in it he jump straight on to it and happily eats away. Is he's next lesson for him to get on (in the cage) without the treat or should i try and get him to come out from the cage on my hand while still eating??

The balcony is pretty standard: it's covered and there's a 3ft high rail, but there is still a very large opening between the roof and rail that a hawk can certainly fit through. There are not many hawks in the area I live in, but I have noticed a particular red-tailed hawk circling the area the last few days.

she's an Eclectus parrot & isn't plucking her feathers out but they do appear to be split/shreaded. Does anyone know what this could be?

I've had my cockatiel Kirbi for almost two months now, and she still won't let me pick her up. I previously had a cockatiel for 9 years, so I know how to deal with birds. I play music, sing to her, talk to her, sit near the cage so she can feel comfortable. She comes out of her cage and walks around the floor, so she's not scared to come out. I've tried slowly resting my finger inside the cage and waiting, but she dodges to the opposite side of the cage and waits til I stop invading her space. I bought her from a pet store, so I know she's not as friendly as birds from a breeder, and I don't know how old she is. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

The other night I was awoken by my 3 budgies (2 male and 1 female) squawking. I went downstairs and found the female on the bottom of the cage unable to fly back up to the perches. The cage is pretty big, there is enough room for all three.

I took the female and put her in the spare cage and this is the 3rd day that she is in it now. She seems happy enough, just her wings have quite a few feathers missing, I think the other 2 were bullying her. At the moment she still can't fly, but she climbs all over your clothes and perches on your head. There is no blood on either of her wings.

I was wondering when, or if, will she be able to fly again. And when would you put her back in the big cage, or would you leave her by herself? I am making a fuss of her, chatting to her a lot and stroking her.

Thanks,
