I have bred birds for ten years and I don't know why the other breeder has no clue about how important quanratine can be. It should be SOP especially for breeders Maybe she treated her birds as breeding stock rather than pets and managing disease was unimportant to her, if someone died, it is just a business loss for some breeders.

I always quarantined mine in a different room and used separate food and water dishes (disinfected daily in the dishwasher) and kept food storage separate. Never had a problem.

If you want to keep from exposing your existing bird to possible illness, you need to keep the birds completely separate for thirty days. True, this may be unnecessary, but birds hide illness well, and to diagnose a problem in avians is expensive. 30 days is not too much to invest in avoiding calamity.

when i bought a friend for my one after his girl tiel had died it took two weeks in separate cages let the one you already had out and he should go to the cage of the other one to be nosey and vice versa when the other one is in get the new one out do this until you think they are used to each other then get them both out at the same time to see how they interact with each other. if they seem fine try putting them in the same cage together but keep an eye on them

If you introduce a new bird to an established flock you should quarantine the new bird for 30-days to insure that he/she doesn't carry any disease from his previous home. A new-bird-vet-check is a good idea too.

Good luck with your little friends! Remember though, they might not necessarily like each other immediately when you introduce them so do it gradually.

I have been breeding cockatiels for 20 yrs and I have never quarentined any of my birds and never had a problem. A baby shouldnt have to be quarentined. I wouldnt worry about it. Too many people try and get you to believe things that are just arent true.

I'm surprised you bought one of them as I understand most young ladies prefer a cockatoo.
