Oh, and what color would the bear be that eats him? Don't say white indicating a polar bear because they don't have any in Antarctica. The bird would be a penguin in Antarctica and he would have to be standing right on the South Pole. A foot away from the pole and he may be looking South if he is looking at the South Pole but would have to stand directly on it to face North in every direction. This does not happen because Penguins don't travel that far toward the South Pole because the ice would be too thick to allow them to make a hole to find food. Penguins live more North in Antarctica on the edge of the land where there is food and access to the water. This is a poorly thought out question. Penguins feed on krill and you couldn't get to krill living near the South Pole beacause the ice is too thick.

Admiral Byrd at the South Pole. Your question did not specify whether it was magnetic north or not! Penguins don't live there so that wont work.
