Birds - September 2006

There are three birds in one cage (mom, dad & youngest) and four males in another. One bird from each cage has this foot problem. The bottom of the foot looks almost black. I can't see any other problem with the birds. Anyone have any ideas?

.you know i have 11 birds and 6 are parakeets..now ,i know alot about birds but this time i'm truly baffled. the parakeets are in a big cockatiel cage and have been for YEARS,the past week or so,,one particular parakeet keeps getting out. some way some how. i've searched the cage up and down..i've looked at all the bars ,,they're in great shape..there's no hole or anything ,,,how does he get out? the space between the bars are the regular size for parakeet or cockatiel...can't get their head through them....so tell me..how do you think this bird is getting out?? they've never done this for years until recently!!!! birds do not have the ability to flatten their bodies like rodents and sqeeze through huh??

I recently aquired a beautiful 4 month old Sulfer Crester Cockatoo....she is the smallest of the breed and is very beautiful. I am looking for a really nice name for her. I thought of Penelope (Penny for short) and Lola....any other ideas. She is white with a slight lemon yellow upder her wings and on top of her head.

Anyone know what places I should look to find bird's nest? I can't climb trees and I also live in town house complex.

No jokes please.

i heard birds chirping very loud and frantically so i looked out my window and there are hundreds of them freaking out. is there a reason for this? maybe weather related or something.

ok. my bird got out of his cage yesterday and today we found him. he was in our tree and we could not get him down. i know this might sound bad but i promise it is not. my brother had to shoot BELOW him to get him to move. he accidetily hit him. when we got him, it was just his wing that was hit. we looked at it and the only thing holding on the wing is the bone and we can see it. should we just take off the wing and put antibiotic ointment on it to heal? please let me know.

The bird is only 12 weeks old, we aquired it 4 days ago. We are able to handle it and it loves to be stroked, wanting attention and we still have all our fingers. The trouble is when we open the cage it is not long before it goes around the room like a 747 demolishing everything it comes into contact with. We have another grey called Smokey and a b/g macaw called Bandit both about 7 years old and aquired 2 years ago, they are quite contented to stay in or sit on their cages, and we would like the same from Josie. Bandit has a big beak and loves us both favouring his mum by far, but we have never had the courage to handle him though he seems to want it. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
