I had a parakeet who masturbated against a soft fleece "birdie bed" that was attached to the side of his cage. I considered removing it, but then decided, "Hey, the guy's all caged up, he enjoys this, it's not hurting him, there's no 10 year olds around I need to explain it to. Let him enjoy." I almost wanted to buy him little birdie cigarettes to enjoy afterwards.

Thankfully, though, I have a cat now. And I had him neutered the second he discovered his "equipment."

Take the large mirrors out of the cage. If you have to give a bird a mirror make sure it is small and will only show part of the bird not life size. I had that problem with my tiel when I put a large mirror that covered the whole back of the cage.

Believe it or not birds never see them self in the wild and can live without a mirror.

Men do that too! If you have figured out the reason, that will probably answer the question. Would you get a man a female if he looks himself in the mirror? Would he really like to mate with himself even with a diminished IQ and a few unsuccesful frustrating attempts? He would really have to be a desperate!

get rid of the mirror and replace it with one where he only sees his face. That way he thinks he's looking at another bird through a small window. If you have a bird that has the potential for talking, remove all mirrors. If he sees another bird he only wants to communicate in it's own bird talk and won't learn any words.

Yes, it is normal and my bird does it all the time. You could get him a mate but be prepared for baby birds. He will be all hers and you won't be all that important to him any longer.

IT'S NORMAL FOR THE BIRD TO DO THIS...TAKE THE MIRROR OUT OF THE CAGE. ..they tend to fall in love with their reflection, instead of you....if you want Baby's, get the female, otherwise, forget it...he'll be fine by himself....

"humping" is likewise a demonstrate of dominance. If he's not easily penetrating her i might want to assert he's in basic terms reminding her that he's the guy of the abode. I easily have heard of a few canines nonetheless attempting after being neutered and in a unmarried case, a lady canines! in spite of the undeniable fact that, i'm positive on your case it will be dominance. to maintain away from it getting worse or causing complications, in basic terms tell him off even as he trys next time :)
