he has never done this before and just started doing it this morning

this is not normal, it may have a cold, they do not usually show any signs of being sick, until its almost to late...contact your Avian vet NOW.....

I have a cockatiel, and have never seen or read about this. Did you just wake up and maybe he had just had a drink of water? Even then when my cockatiel Vito drinks he never drops a bit of water. I will keep watching for answers on this, am so curious because I have never heard of it.
