You didn't say where you lived. perhaps there preparing to head south for the winter. They all flock together and are very noisy.

Where I live once it starts getting cool the birds suddenly congregate in large groups and they sure are chatty. (-:
I think they're cute. They will fuss a lot too if they see an enemy such as my cat. I live where the birds all leave for the winter. When I lived down south I never noticed them doing that before. I think it has something to do with getting ready to fly south.

Sometimes there is an insect hatch that will cause all the birds to collect in one area.

Look on the ground see if there are lots of bugs or ants on the ground or in the air.

Earthquakes, Tsunami, and other items can cause items in birds of animals but I doubt that is it.

Mating season for the birds ??

could be the time of year for this type of bird to begin migration. Or it could be weather related. Or maybe they are planning a huge surprise attack on your neighborhood. But it won't be much of a surprise if they don't keep it on the down-low!

Were they all the same species? If so, you probably had a migratory flock, stopping for a rest. Migrating flock are more vocal than normal, the current theory is that it helps individual birds keep track of the flock.

It could be weather related. Birds will fly around and play just before it rains. They will also fly higher than normal.

I hope this helps.

nah, probably one of them just got scared, and they all picked up on it and went nuts. birds are like that, they follow the pack, so to speak. if bad weather were coming and the birds knew about it, you actually wouldn't hear them at all because they'd be hiding out in their nests waiting out the storm.

I don't pretend to know the answer to this, but I have noticed that when it happens the weather seems unnaturally still. I think it might be that they can sense the approach of a storm.

could be a raptor flew into the area, and all the birds are freaking out because a predator is near, and they are alarm calling to warn one another.
