When my cockatiel is ill, not eating just sleeping all the time, I give her calpol (Sugar free 3+). I hold her on her back and put a drop of calpol in her mouth with a clean finger and a couple of drops of water, wait until she drinks it then l put her back in the cage It makes her feel better. I repeat twice a day until for she looks better. I also put a drop in her drinking water mixed round every week, even if she looks ok. Cheaper then going vets anyway. Hope it works for you.

Your birds' age is very young for macaw, so this is not a serious consideration, However, any time a bird stops eating IT IS VERY SERIOUS! Macaws that suddenly begin sleeping a lot and eating very little are SICK! Possibly near death. I am extremely concerned that you waited so long before consulting a BIRD vet. Regular animal vets just do not have the knowledge to treat parrots. i urge you to get the bird to an avian doctor NOW.
if its still alive, that is. Also, if it died, PLEASE get its body to the vet for a necropsy, so you can find out what killed it or when you bring another bird into your home it might also be infected or poisoned, depending on the cause of death in your macaw.

Please take your Macaw to your avian vet tomorrow, if not sooner. It sounds as though she is sick and needs a bird doctor right away. Can you call your vet tonight? Some animal clinics have after-hours phone numbers...or there might be an emergency care clinic near you. Birds keep illness a secret for a long time, because out in the wild, if they appear sick, they become some other animals dinner. The rule of the wild...the strong survive. So, birds "appear" well until they can no longer do so. Save your birds life by getting her to the vet as quickly as possible! Best of luck!

First of all, you'll want to contact your vet and ask him about this. To save money, you can simply call instead of making a costly appointment and see what he suggests.
There's also always great resources on the web about caring for these gorgeous birds. One site that's very informative and covers a ton of topics and informations is
http://animal-world.com/encyclo/birds/macaws/MacawProfile.htm
Aside from that, do searches on B&G Macaws on yahoo and see what turns up.
Best of luck!

That is not a good sign for a bird to be acting that way. A bird has to feel really badly before they will show it. They are prey animals and it's instinct for them to hide any illness or injury.
Call your vet and get her there ASAP.

she is probly bord or lonly so it would help in case you acquire her some new toys to play with and pay somewhat more beneficial interest to her. i do not ignore that because I have a parrot that did a similar ingredient and stoped when I were given him toys and payed more beneficial interest to him
