My little sister just got a bleedin' ant farm kit and is now pestering me to go and get some ants to start it with. Where do the little buggers dwell in wet weather then?

I want to make something horse related for art. We're using clay. It needs to be something not too easy and not too hard. I also have to be able to incorperate some kind of texture or pattern into the sculpture. I ride western if that helps any. I need to know what to make by tomorrow morning....

I don't mean to profit from the misfortune of others... however:
I am creating a section on my pet sitting website (http://bossoli.com)
about the negative aspects of putting your pet in a boarding facility when you are away.

Can you please share stories about your experiences with boarding your cat or dog while you were away? All in all was it a positive or negative experience? What was your opinion about the cost? Opinion about the care of your pet and the environment of the facility?

My 12 year old kitty has a about 1/4 diameter growth on his head. We call it a wart, but it more like a ball of skin, and the vet said it was a sort of tumor but since you can move it around, it wasn't dangerous. Anyway, it looks like it has black "pores" on it and if I squeezed them, this black sorta thick stuff comes out of the various little pores, and the whole thing seems deflated for awhile. Please don't get overly disturbed by this, I am just one of those squeezer type people and can't help it. I am wondering if this stuff that comes out is dried up blood or what. I haven't taken him back to the vet because we can't afford it and since it's not dangerous, we don't want to put him through anything just for aesthetic reasons. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I put salt in the water..I do a partial change often..(maybe 1 to 2x's month)
they do fine at first...then they start hanging around the heater and slowing down...but still moving around and feeding..then they get more lethargic and more lethargic..then they die. A couple of them got what is called "whirling disease"
I tried medicated food, and a couple of them died of starvation (seemingly) they refused to eat the food.
I give them 1 tbsp per 10 gallons for salt.
I've tried ick treatment, completely sanitizing the tank, melafix, antibiotics, everything..I want fish that will give me babies (no, please don't suggest guppies, I have another tank for them) The mollys are about 5 in a 40 gallon tank. I want them to give me babies but they die before they give birth usually, and the one that did give birth there was a big power outage and they all died of cold exposure. :''(

I am doing a school project in which I plan to study things about animals like hamsters, gerbils, or mice. Which will be the easiest to work with. Most likely I will be working with mazes.

I feed 9 feral cats, the other day I caught one of them weeing in the kitchen and noticed there was light blood in the wee.
Do you think I should trap her and take her to the vets, I can't monitor her toilet as she only comes in to get fed.
She was speyed about 3 months ago.

we have a puppy (vet is guessing about 4 to 5 months old) we found on the roadside. No one has claimed her so we are taking the plunge and keeping her. We are going to take all the good suggestions, put them in a hat and pick a name. She is white with 'lemon' markings - maybe part pointer.

My shih tzu is 3 months old. And he has medium length hair.
The pet store told me not to wash him more than once every two weeks due to skin irritation and dryness. However, because of the long coat it gets smelly very quick.
I was wondering how often can I wash my puppy? if I can't shampoo him often how can I keep him clean and fresh? (ex. wipes)
Also, I'm thinking about taking my puppy to pet smart to get it groomed...how often should I go? and how much does it cost to get him groomed? (everything included...brushing teeth, hair cut, shampooing, nail cut...etc)

Thanks in advance!

should the dog be allowed to have one heat cycle or is it better to spay them before they cycle? Either way the dog is being spayed.

i'm trying to find a safe way to sell my cockatiel. i don't wish to keep her anymore, and i know that she would be happier with someone who has more time and experience. she would be happiest with other birds, as well. please help! my one wish for her is that she live out the rest of her days in happiness and comfort. she will be 6 years old this year and has never had chicks before. she bonds well to people once she gets to know you, and she likes millet as a treat.

The vet just told us that Oreo has a slight heart murmur. Any suggestions. I kind of zoned out when he mention heart issues and suggesting a $300+ MRI on my cat.

She has a Husky of her own, a Boston Terrier and a "Tea Cup" Pomeranian....When she came home, she found her "Pom" chewed up and bloody and obviously dead....She blamed her daughter's dog.but also stated it was an accident...I was told that no matter how much training these dogs have, they are preditors and will attack smaller animals...Is this true about Siberian Huskys?...I feel so bad for her...The "Pom" was her baby....

I'm considering adopting a sweet 9 year old cat from a local shelter. Right now, I have a 3.5 year old cat who's not too active but not very lazy either. I'm not really worried about introducing them, but how will having two cats be different from having just one? I'd really love some input from cat owners who have gone through this change.

P.S. Are there any special things I need to do to accomodate the older cat?

I paid $55 at the vet for a 3 month supply of Frontline Plus for my dog and I put it on her as directed but it didn't work. Instead the fleas seem to be attracted to the stuff. I bought a 4 month supply of K-9 Advantix and I put it on my dog and it doesn't seem to be doing any good either. A colleague of my sisters said he bathes his dogs with Avon Skin So Soft body wash and I bought 2 bottles. I bathe my dog every week and the body wash isn't working either because she still has tons of fleas on her. I don't know what else to do. My sister said her vet said regular dawn dish detergent kills fleas to wash the dog with that and I have and it doesn't work either. Can somebody out there please help me. My dog and I are both very miserable.

i have had my cat since he was 8 weeks old.
he is now nearly 2 years old.

he has been brought up indoors as i live in a block of flats and untill recently all the neighbours had dogs.

even tho he has had the snip, my cat can be vicious so when he was six months old i started walking him on a lead to get him used to being outside as the vet suggested letting him out as maybe it would help calm him down.

since last week i decided to take him out without his lead. he didnt run off to explore like i thought he would he just ran straight to the front door of the block and meowed ever so loudly untill i let him back in.

its a safe area where i took him near the flats and its quite as its away from the road.

he always runs straight back to the block.
if i dont let him in he meows untill someone lets him in.

i really want him to go out as he is over weight and needs the exersize. what can i do?
