definately ask other dog owners...also, I like to make appointments (just me) to go in, meet the vet, discuss their care..maybe I'll take the dog just to see how he/she interacts with my doggy..and the nicest, most reasonable, most well informed vet wins.

The best answer to your question is to ask the natives. If you have neighbors with pets or if you walk your dogs ask someone. They are able to suggest a few good vets and also their own experiences with the people who work at the facility. For me it is more than just what they can do for the pet, it is just as important to trust and build a relationship with those who will take care of my little furry friends ; )

Finally! A good question here!
I would recommend talking to other dog owners who live nearby. Although you might not know many people where you are, most folks are quick to talk about their dogs. Good luck.

ask around, see what vets have good reputations. You could also go to: http://www.healthypet.com/
you can search for aaha accredited hospitals. This is the american animal hospital association. Doctors have to meet alot of standards to get their hospital accredited with this organization.

Ask around your new neighbourhood out on your doggie walks. Like minded dog friendly people will be more than happy to advise you

Join your local Craig's List. Ask your question on the pet forum and ask them to say why they prefer their vet over others.
