My 12 year old kitty has a about 1/4 diameter growth on his head. We call it a wart, but it more like a ball of skin, and the vet said it was a sort of tumor but since you can move it around, it wasn't dangerous. Anyway, it looks like it has black "pores" on it and if I squeezed them, this black sorta thick stuff comes out of the various little pores, and the whole thing seems deflated for awhile. Please don't get overly disturbed by this, I am just one of those squeezer type people and can't help it. I am wondering if this stuff that comes out is dried up blood or what. I haven't taken him back to the vet because we can't afford it and since it's not dangerous, we don't want to put him through anything just for aesthetic reasons. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Any tumor growth in the cat's head must be removed to prevent this cat from developing cancer. By the sounds of the size of this tumor, your cat more than likely already has feline cancer. When the tumor gets to be a certain size, it starts breaking off Chromaffin A cells that begin to mutate and cause growths into other organs in the body. You must remove this tumor and stop aggrevating the condition by messing with the growth. Get a medicine ball if you need to fidgit with something, not your cat's tumor.

I had a cat who had something similar but it was on her neck. When I squeezed it clear fluid would come out, it would deflate for a while, and then it would fill up again.
Turns out it was a tumor. It wasn't cancerous, but we had it removed and she lived for another 8 years to the age of 21. They said her tumor was caused by the feline leukemia vaccination, which sometimes can cause injection site tumors.
If your vet said it wasn't dangerous, it probably isn't as long as it doesn't get any bigger (or get infected from you squeezing it). So lay off on the squeezing as I imagine it doesn't feel so good to your kitty.

My dog had a similar problem. The first vet said tumor. Not anything serious. Don't worry. Then older vet came out to look at my horses. He, usually, only treated farm animals, but I asked him to look at the dog.
He said it was a cyst or boil. He had me hold the dog. Steralized
a razor blade with a lighter and made a small cut on it very quickly. The dog never even yelped. He squeezed it and a lot of gross goo came out. Then he wiped it off with some peroxide on a cotton pad. He said to leave it open and let it drain and heal naturally. Just wipe off with cotton soaked in peroxide 3 times a day for a week.
It went away and never came back.

Basel Cell Tumor? Or maybe a follicular cyst? If so, you shouldn't squeeze them, as the fluid can cause a severe skin reaction.
If you feel better squeezing it and 'deflating' it, have handy an iodine and water solution soaked gauze to cleanse the area well (good to do before the squeezing, too).
And your right, it sure does sound gross. =) Good luck

It sounds like a sebaceous cyst which can be removed from the cat. Like squeezing pimples they just fill up again with the oil so I don't think you are doing the cat any favors by emptying it out.
Why not call the vet and have him look in the records to see if it is such a cyst?

That's kind of nasty! I was watching animal planet the other day and they had a rat with the same condition. It was just an abundance of naturally produced skin oils and clogged pores. Basically they did the same thing you did - squeeze it. They said that it wouldn't do any good to have them surgically removed because they'll just fill up again. It is probably just a combination of excess skin oil and dirt. If the vet said not to worry then I wouldn't either. I'd squeeze too!
Good luck!

several years ago i had a cat with a lump like that. finally, after a few years, he scratched it, a scab formed and i started playing with it. it was full of white stuff (dead white blood cells), not black. i got all the stuff out and then put some neosporin in the holes. it healed normally. black could be decaying blood. if it smells sickly sweet then it's decaying tissue (gangrene). but if it just smells like rotten meat or no smell, then it's blood. my vet told me cats have a thick skin and things can fester under there for years with no problems. it could have been someone shooting him with a beebee that didn't come out, for instance.

Try using some skin cleansers on it or something. It sounds like some sort of cat acne or something. Maybe if you just helped little kitty clean out his/her pores it would clear up?
Don't use anything that would be toxic if they licked it though.

Please take it to the vet, see if they can make payment plans with you. If that is not possible see if there is an animal shelter that will look at your kitty. Maybe they have some idea. Or call and just ask someone at a vet....

sounds like a cyst. Just like blackheads you get on your face. Unless it begins to bother you or the cat I would not worry about having it removed.
