there are several dog rescue organizations in new york where you can adopt a dog. these organizations rescue dogs, train them, care for them and have them prepared for adoptions with shot records etc.

they don't cost very much as they are non-profit groups. the only cost they charge is what it cost them to care for the dogs and the shots.

here are some sites in new york where you can start: good luck on your quest:

The pound or animal shelter is the best way to go. I just got a new purebred Golden Retriever at the one where I live. It's the best dog i have ever had. If you think about how many dogs are in the pound right now, it makes you feel good about making that number one less and giving a great dog a good home.

I'm going to second petfinder.com
I'm a real believer in rescuing an animal without a home, and if you're looking for a "pure bred" I promise they're on there. Try looking at the shelter & rescue group link at the top of the page to find a shelter in your area. And don't forget to look at the classifieds too! Theres a lot of animals on there that are in despreate need of a home because the owners can no longer care for them due to the owners physical health. These are the dogs that are already housetrained, and vacinated.
Just yesterday I rescued a Great Pyrenees pup, beautiful dogs!

Get one from a shelter or a breeder. Pet stores are awful. We paid $950.00 for a chi- at a pet store and it almost died 2 1/2 days later. It was ill. A few other people in my family bought animals from pet stores and every one was ill. When we bought from shelters and breeders, they were all healthy. Even if they say heath is certified and they can prove they are healthy....doesn't mean it is true. They can have an illness that can show up later in life. But you can never 100% guarentee the health of a animal bought anywhere,

canine are so domesticated that lots of the time they do no longer do properly with being outdoors for all time and maximum US cities have rules about how the canine desires to have protect and water for all time. maximum human beings have their canine interior the homestead the final public of time. I do not forget that the zoo in Baghdad has canine interior the zoo yet this isn't what takes position interior the U. S.. canine are our pets, operating companions, or provider companions. We do have wolves and foxes interior the zoo yet even in spite of the undeniable fact that they are appropriate those 2 animals are both a unique species from one yet another and from canine.

Best place to get a dog - the local shelter.
Best place to get a purebred dog with a known lineage - a responsible breeder.

dont buy a dog from a pet store. sometimes the dog turns out fine and other times it turns out really sick. ive always heard that it's bad to buy from a pet store. i would but it from a breeder. there are probably ads in the paper.

You'd be amazed at all of the pure bred dogs that end up at shelters. Do a search by breed and you'll get results - and avoid Craigslist.org, as animal sales are prohibited there.
