She will eat when I hand feed her dry food and will eat human left-overs out of her bowl but won't eat her own food. And yes I have tried various things like moving the bowl and changing the bowl/plate. I have even left her for 3 days thinking she will get hungry enough to eat on her own but nooo luck! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow because she has lost weight but after my phone call tonight, the vet didn't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

I recently acquired a beautiful Pit Bull puppy from a woman. The mother had stopped feeding the pups and the owners couldn't care for them. I was told she is 5 weeks but she is so tiny I believe she's more like 3 weeks. She's about 10in long and her teeth haven't popped through her gums yet. She is still very wobbly on her feet also. Any suggestions on feeding/care for my little girl? What is a good food to start with? she is on puppy formula now.

My 4 year old German Shepherd, Fluffy, has 2 broken ribs, a dis-located hip and has 'Grade 7' elbow dysplasia (don't know wha grade 7 means). He is only 4 yrs old, very fit and healthy (besided the probelsm listed) but I just can't afford the surgery and medication he needs. Vet said it would cost over $2000 to do the surgery and give all the medication! Is there something else I can do for my darling dog? I have asked the vet for other options - he said surgery was the best option. He is in so much pain and I hate seeing him like this; he cries when he is in bed. He got ran over by a truck only 2 days ago and the signs of his injuries are showing a LOT!!!! I have 3 children aged 2, 7 and 12 and a hubby that doesn't work. I earn around $1700 a fortnight and we wouldn't be able to eat for 4 weeks if I allowed the surgery!!!

Please help me with my options. I have no idea what to do. My kids are so attached to Fluffy; we can't put him to sleep so please don't suggest that.

Beth.

the breed of dog that would suit me?

- No long haired breeds
- Protective of owner/s and house
- Small to small medium size
- Friendly to our friends
- Will like being indoors a great deal
- Will like being outdoors at times
- Can't be a yappy (barking) breed
- Can't be taught easy/fairly easily
- NO poodles (or curly haired equivalents)
- Sturdy breed
- Well priced
- We live in Brisbane, Australia

We were looking at Whippets, but they seem to be expensive.
WE were maybe thinking something along the lines of a Jack Russell or Chihuiahua x Fox Terrier.

What do you think?

Declawing is cruel and other places recognize that but the US seems to be way behind or just not compassionate enough or willing to care because material things are more important than life.

I mean kind as in dog/cat/dolphin or whatever. Also, why? Could we learn things from them, or would we just end up capitalizing them and using them for war?

I am contemplating using this product to reduce nitrates in an aquarium. It is a 180 gallon fish only tank (only an arowana and a pleco), but I really don't want (and cannot due to the tank design) fit a mechanical denitrinator to the tank). I do partial 20% water changes every week and the nitrates are still getting up there(plus I monitor the feeding and remove any excess food not eaten). If you used this product what were the results? How affective was it or isn't? Did you measure the nitrates ppm reduction? How much was it reduced by?

i'm getting a puppy very soon as a late late late birthday gift, and i'm having trouble picking a name. i thought maybe some of you could help me out with some fun, new, and original co ed names because i don't know if i will be getting a female or male yet. i don't like "simple" names. example: max, spot, princess, rocky, (i already have a dog named that), etc. i want a name that no one would really think of. i have a few, but i thought it would be nice to hear some suggestions first. thank you to those who reply!

no stupid names, please.

I am taking my two cats this Wednesday to get fixed. I will drop them off at the vet at 9 am and pick them up at 4 pm. How stressful this surgery will be for the cats? Will they be in any pain for few days after the surgery? For how long will they be in pain? I have never dealt with anything like this before, so I have no idea what to expect. Any advice.

My cat loves cheddar cheese. I sometimes give him tiny bits as treats. Is cheese harmful for him, or is it okay?

When my two cats "what seems to be playing," they bat at each other, run for each other, sometimes hiss, and make loud noises. How do you know they're only playing and not fighting? Thanks!
