They are almost 7 months old and they chew on everything. How can I get them to stop???

We give them dog bones and toys, but they still chew on everything.

This is the first Christmas we'll be celebrating with our newly adopted dogs (Chi & Westie). Traditionally I have always purchased a 6" fresh Noble Fir, but since adopting the girls I've read (and unfortunately had experience) with the toxins of pine trees (the Westie took a bite out of a freshly fallen green pine cone - the vet loves me).

Are Christmas trees toxic? Could their fallen needles be toxic? Should I skip the tree altogether because they're just going to want to eat my Great Grandmother's handmade ornaments anyway?

I'd love to have a tree, but not at the expense of my dogs. Any suggestions?

I know I am completely asking for it here but....Ok my dog is acting really weird. He has a bed of blankets on the floor and he always loves to lay there. Well sometimes he gets up and starts pawing at the blankets, flippin them everywhere! Its like hes digging a hole or something? After he paws and digs at the blankets and has them totally messed up, he flops back down on them and then gets up, turns around and flops down again...Hes just layin on the blankets then terrorizes them then lays back down....is he trying to tell me something or what? I wash them a lot so its not like they are nasty or anything, what the heck is he doing??

My outside dog eats and chews on EVERYTHING, no matter what it is. Does anyone know of a way to keep him from eating the x-mas lights, because I would really like to put them down the sidewalk. He's a weininnieer (breed) if that matters.

Check www.petfinder.com. You can put in specific info like breed you want, size, gender, age, and location. It pulls up a list, starting with the closest shelters/sanctuaries to you.

But people, PLEASE do your homework before getting a pet. Don't buy on impulse just because it's the holidays. Do you work all day? A cat would be good for you. Do you work from home? A dog would be better, especially a needy breed like beagles. Small children? Don't get uppity breeds that snap, like pomeranians.

You can also adopt barnyard/birds/rodents/etc from this site.

I've bought her a scratching post, a scratching rug, let another cat scratch the post hoping she'd catch on from watching -- to no avail. She still scratches my couch, and my fiance--who has nice furniture--doesn't want her ruining it. Any suggestions?

i adopted a feral kitten last week, probably about 7 or 8 weeks old. He has been to the vet and he's only got worms and an eye infection, so he's ok. However, we are still having trouble taming him. When we try to pick him up (which is at least 3 times a day, since that is how often he needs neosporin put on his eyes), he hisses and scratches us and runs away if he can.
As soon as you pick him up, he purrs to sleep in your arms, he'll eat out of your hand, whatever. He is sleeping in my lap as I type. But he still runs away like crazy whenever we're not already holding him. He won't come near you unless you catch him, and I can't help but think that cornering and scaring him is not the best way to get him used to being picked up.
Has anyone tamed a kitten before? Advice would be welcome.
Also, do the worms make him this gassy or is it the food or what? This is a stinky kitten. Do they fart to repel predators? Does he just fart when we pick him up?

I am planning to try to get my dog certified so I can take her on assisted pet therapy visits to Hospitals, nursing homes, etc...
Any advice on brushing up her basic obedience, sit, lay down, stay and walk on leash... She does quite well on all, just want to have it down really good for when they do the evaluation on my girl.
Thanks.

Okay, dog gas is NASTY! My Chi likes to curl up on my chest when I'm on the laptop, and my Westie snuggles right beside me.

One of them had the most foul odor this evening. Each likes to partake of the cat kibble if we don't pick it up quick enough (the Chi more so than the Westie).

Here's the question -- is one breed more than any other prone to gas issues? Could the cat kibble be contributing to the dog's methane output? What's in the cat kibble that reacts so horribly in the K9's bellies?

Both dogs eat Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed Adult dry kibble exclusively (unless they're eating the cats Artemis Feline kibble). We do not give table scraps at ALL.

Appreciate your knowledge of all things gassy. I think I need a bath.. peeeeewwwww!

My puppy as develop a cherry eye, Only one eye, and the gland is not always out. Will it get worse and always stay out, and will have to get her eye stitched?. I was wondering since it's not all the time if it can go away by itself? this evening I have notice some yellow puss comming out of her eye. Can that gland get infections? If it's infected could that be the reason it's out?
