are you talking about the cats pad that helps the cat not have such a hard time walking i think!! hope i helped

It's the heel of the paw,and aids in running faster,and quietly stalking prey.It's not vestigual at all,that's a bunch of garbage put out by a bunch of deluded people.God blessed the cats and other creatures in that way,so
that they would not starve about 6 thousand years ago,-archeological science confirms the actual age of the earth around about then.

Hi JR...it's called a dew claw. It is vestigial. Evolutionarily speaking at one time it was probably a useful 5th toe but now it is just a left over or a "vestige". It has no real purpose any longer. Cats are digitigrade animals: they run on their digits, "tiptoe". This increases their stride length, and thus their speed.

It's just an extra little pad.I know of no purpose for it.Dogs have them,too.
