Declawing is cruel and other places recognize that but the US seems to be way behind or just not compassionate enough or willing to care because material things are more important than life.

Because we're stupid. It's funny the way so many aspects of people's lives are being controlled by the government, but when it comes down to things that are cruel towards animals, nobody seems to give a crap! It's really about convenience for ourselves...people refuse to go out and buy claw caps or scratching posts and instead choose to cut 'em off at the 1st knuckle!

Most Americans are not educated enough on what declawing actually does to the cat. I had mine declawed a few years back , but had no idea it was so inhumane at the time. If i had it to do ove i would have left his claws in.
On the bright side, he's spunky, and rambuctious and didn't affect his playfulness at all!!!. Still I'm against it for any other cats i get :-)

From what I have seen here, people tend to be more worried about their furniture than their cat's health and comfort, declawing is inhumane and any one that does that to their cat to protect their furniture is not fit to own an animal. Think about it, cats have claws, they scratch, if you don't like that then don't get a cat. It makes me so mad that people can do that to animals, how would they like it if someone cut off their fingers and toes and the first joint and then asked them to scratch around in cat litter, it's an appalling thing to do, and should be banned all over the world.
