I started remodelling the interior of my house and I really need your advice ! I bought some new furniture and I don't know how to paint the walls of the room in order to match that color with the color of the furniture. The sofa and the armchairs I bought are brown, with white and black stripes... and the rest of the furniture is also a dark brown natural wood color. The only think that is a light color of wood is the floor... So, I was wondering... What color can I use to paint the walls to make all the colors match ?

Oh, and one more question... what colors should the curtains be ?

My architect is designing a higher and wider than normal sized exterior door for the front entrance of my house. I would like to find out where I can have it custom-made in Australia. What will be the cost including delivery to Perth. The door shall be of hard wood, mahongany, tasmanian oak or other recommended hard wood. Apart from its unusual height and width, its thickness has to be commensurate with its size. I do not mind if some old doors (classical design) that can be modified to suit my specific requirements.

My Partner has just moved into a new home, semi detached. She wants to put a conservatory on at the rear to a 'maximum' size of 9' x 9' . Will she need planning permission or is this classed as permitted development ? It is circa 7 ' from nearest house, no higher than ground floor , less than 10% of total house size and not in any protected area etc. Any advice appreciated. AndyB

I want to paint my bare white walls with a color that will go with the carpet...I'm stumped and need some help from anyone that is willing to comment. This is for our bedroom, the carpet is a pinkish/purple with a little green and off shades of red - I took a picture and have uploaded it to show you guys for help. I'd love to hear what you would do. Here's what the carpet looks like, http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d13/primped/carpetls.jpg

I have a nice leather couch which somehow recieved a 2" gash in the seating area. I'm not worried from a cosmetically view, but I don't want the gash to get bigger. What's the best way to repair thisw thing?

Was it oil underneath?
I sanded, primed and painted and the paint (semi-gloss) is coming right off. I spend a TON of time doing it well with expensive (American Tradition ) and it's making me mad, what can I do to start over and KEEP it on this time?

I am looking for a "theme" of sorts, without doing the same ole thing you see in everyone's kitchen. My dishes and accessories are these colors: hunter green, olive green, black, brown, and tan. Any neutrals would be perfect, but I'm not sure of what to get. I was reading in an earlier post and liked the pottery idea. I have lots of cabinet top and wall space for decor and currently there is just ivy there. I need other ideas to brainstorm and still keep my colors as the dishes, etc are fairly new. thanks!

First of all do I need primer if I'm painting over a clean white wall? and I was also wondering if any one knows a good color that would go with a dark dark forest green color carpeting, other than white? I need some ideas, creative ones or more basic what ever you can offer, thanks!

my house has an open floor plan. the walls are a shade lighter than mustard yellow. my formal dining room is right next to the living room and it has traditional oak furniture and it has a buffet with a charcoal gray marble top. my hearth room is also next to my living room becuase it is right in front of my kitchen, which has stainless steel appliances and uba tuba (ooba tooba?) green granite counter tops along with cherry cabinets. The hearth room has contemporary black leather furniture and black glass tables.
how can i coordinate my living room to look good with both my traditional-style formal dining room and my contemporary hearth room.
please let me know if you need any more information.
any suggestions for stores are welcome. links with pieces that you like from stores like Bombay and Pier One would also be very helpful.
thanks!

I LOVE the colour black. It is by far my favorite colour. I want to paint my office black. My mom is advising me not to though. What are some things I should know about black paint before I paint my wall? Has anyone else painted a room black? If so, how did it turn out?
