i've always known a Duvet as a fluffy, normally down filled comforter an you get a "duvet cover to cover that, the sham is just a decorater cover for your pillow, to dress your bed up.
duvets are beautiful, normally white, and they are like a cloud when you cover yourself, so comfortable.if you have one, i know you will enjoy it!!

A duvet (pronounced /du:veɪ/, from the French duvet /dyvε/ "down") is a soft flat bag filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both and used on a bed as a blanket. Duvets were originally used in Europe but have become popular throughout the world in the late twentieth century. The original duvets came out of rural Europe and were made of Eider, a type of duck's down, which is well known for its usefulness as an insulator. Eiderdown is therefore used as a synonym of duvet.
A sham is an ornamental covering for a pillow

Make sure that it doesn't say duvet "cover" because often you can buy covers (like a large pillowcase) to put the duvet in, and matching shams to put your pillows in to decorate the bed.
