First of all do I need primer if I'm painting over a clean white wall? and I was also wondering if any one knows a good color that would go with a dark dark forest green color carpeting, other than white? I need some ideas, creative ones or more basic what ever you can offer, thanks!

A clean white wall does not always guarantee that the surface is ready for paint. I would do as suggested earlier, primer the walls using kilz and you could even get the kilz primer tinted so that you won't have to put so many coats of paint on. Just some color suggestions: Burgundy, Gold, French Vanilla, Taupe. Chocolate & French vanilla, makes for a nice accent in decorating with the dark green. Throw in some gold frames or old books with gold embossed lettering on the spines. The main thing is to add a little more of the dark green in and around your room with throw pillows, etc.

Priming is a good idea if the wall is painted with a basic "builders white". Builders usually use cheap white paint because they know that homeowners are going to paint anyway. You don't have to prime but your paint job will look better if you do. Use Kilz if you want a basic, cheap primer but Zinsser is better. A pale silvery sage green would be pretty with the dark green carpet. A robin's egg blue would be pretty, too. Pale taupes are always in style. A soft golden yellow would be nice. At Lowe's, you can buy a small can of paint called Auditions. They will tint it to whatever color you want to try. The cans are only 2 or 3 dollars each. Get a few, paint a large swatch on the wall and live with them a few days. This way, you can see how the colors look in different lights...daylight, lamp light, early morning, late afternoon, etc. After you choose a color. Take the auditions can back to Lowe's and they can make the paint for you in gallon size.

Good luck!

I agree that nothing but white would scream at the carpet just a bit.

You could try a cream color, or other browns as long as they're not too dark.

Fortunately, forest green is one of those colors that will match with almost anything. You could run the gamut from blues to violets or lavenders, to red and pink and rose, to even lighter greens. Or you could even try one of those colors, with a darker border around the top.

"compatible cream" or "morning fog" by Sherwin Williams colors that coordinate well with dark green.

If you choose a particularly dark color, like red or dark brown, then a gray primer help a lot. It's certainly not necessary, but if you decide not to use a primer, then you'll probably use at least 3 coats for full coverage. If you choose a lighter color, then you won't have to use a primer at all.

no you dont need to prime.
what about other fabrics in the room...do you have a bedspread or window treatments that should be considered in your color choice?
without knowing that, my suggestion is to use a warm cream color, or a warm neutral. "softer tan" is sherwin williams color we use alot, its very nice.
