Bought some bulbs....don't have a clue what I'm doing, as I don't have much of a green thumb. What type of soil, fertilizer, is best? Should I use one of those green weed mats? Are they hard to grow successfully?

I was chipping away the ice in the freezer with a knife and a hammer when I must have poked a hole in the pastic because air started shooting out of this little hole. It was odorless and colorless. Is this freon, and is it serious? I unplugged it but it didn't stop. It won't explode or anything, will it? Will my food still be ok after that air or gas stops coming out? Can the fridge be salvaged?

without resorting to chemical fertilizers and weed killers?

I have a large back yard that is covered with weeds that may be removable after about 3 days of pulling on hands and knees. If there is no hope of accomplishing a grass lawn without the kind of chemicals I have tried to avoid using, I might as well just MOW 'EM down.

What do you think?

Is an electronic air filter better or worse than a media filter. I have heard that the media filter does a better job with dust than the electronic air filter and is less expensive. Does anyone else have any knowledge of these filters? Many thanks in advance.

My husband has subscriptions to several magazines. BH&G, Country Living, Consumer Reports, & This Old House.

I really want to clean off my shelves and put things away, but I can't because he insists on keeping all of his magazines on the shelf. He has a hard time throwing the old ones away. Now, I can see keeping CR and TOH, because they have great information in them that can be used for later, but the others are just clutter. He has about 2.5 - 3 yrs of them on the shelf. I have in the past gone through and thrown some away and he always gets really mad.

Soooo, how long do you keep old magazines around? Which ones and why if you do.

My mother moved in with me several months ago. She only smokes outside. But after a cigarette she comes in with that thick smokey barrier surrounding her. Everywhere she goes and everything she touches for about an hour picks up that stench. I have 2 kids and I don't want any of us living like this. I've been to homes where the smoker smokes outside or in the garage, but those homes do not smell bad. If you have a smokeer in the home and can manage the stench, please HELP ME! It's disgusting.

Hi all!
I need your cleaning expertise. I have a set of cookie sheets that were once non-stick, but after a few years of use have become brown and gross looking. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Or should I just replace them when they get discolored? I'm pretty sure the ones I have now are beyond repair :)

Thanks for your input!

What type of material should I use? Would sheets, bedspreads, or drapes be ok cut to a particular size? How do I do it? How do I hang it? Sofas are moss green, carpet beige, wood furniture is cherry and I want it to hang over the large sofa. I want to use wines and greens. What other colors? Thank you so much!

In my kitchen, whenever I get up & get some coffee for the morning, I find lots of cockroaches, little ones as well as big ones running around, getting into the microwaves, every possible spots they can find. How do I get rid of them?

This only happens when we go to sleep, the house's in complete silence & they start coming out. What's the best spray to use? Is there something that's non-toxic or any home remedies?

I have an old Panasonic top-loading washer that came with my apartment. The last few washes have resulted in a lot of water leakage. It seems to seep out from a gap under the tube that enters near the bottom-rear of the machine. Panasonic charges around $40 to inspect the machine (no longer under warranty) and parts are extra. The agent added that they may not necessarily have parts for older machines.

Is this something that can be easily fixed, or is it not worth paying to fix an old machine?
