My mother moved in with me several months ago. She only smokes outside. But after a cigarette she comes in with that thick smokey barrier surrounding her. Everywhere she goes and everything she touches for about an hour picks up that stench. I have 2 kids and I don't want any of us living like this. I've been to homes where the smoker smokes outside or in the garage, but those homes do not smell bad. If you have a smokeer in the home and can manage the stench, please HELP ME! It's disgusting.

febreze air effects does a good job to get rid of the odor and clear the air. As does lysol. But the best thing that she can do is to stay outside after smoking for like 15 mins. Just get her a good book to read.

Have her change to a less stinky cigarette. I'm serious.
She is not showering daily! Make sure she is changing and washing clothes regularly.
I use Ozium at work for smelly people.
Put in one of those fans that blow down at the doors. just kidding.
Put up pictures of blackened lungs. I quit 20 years ago after seeing those pictures.
Also, smokers are notorious liars, are you sure she is not smoking in the house?

You could give her a roll of mints and a bottle of febreze.

But seriously: I smoke outside but, instead of standing, allowing the smoke to penetrate my clothes (I can't stand the stink either), I wander around. When I'm finished, I pop a mint. It's not 100% effective, but it helps.

Try getting a fancy dish with a cover with holes on it..Or take a small plastic bowl and fill it with white vinegar and that will absorb the odor. You can decorate the bowl and punch holes in the top. change every 2 days. or keep a lot of fabreeze on hand.

Tell the smoker she has to go! Your mom should respect your house. If she is going to smoke, she should do it outside and wait maybe 5 more minutes after she has finished smoking until she comes back into the house. You can try febreezing her everytime she walks back in and invest in air purifiers with hepa filters.

You really should just encourage her to quit for hers, yours and your kids' sake!

Fabreeze

it's really no seceret.
i'm a smoker too,
and to the rest,
telling her just "to quit" is not feasable
obviousely your mom has gone through her fare share of events in her life.

How many grandparents do you know that are subserviant?
Just work with her, I'm sure she doesn't want to harm your children too.

But Fabreeze works really well.
