Well, they're not poisonous, and too small to do much damage individually. I guess you'd need enough of them to drop on someone and crush them under the weight. Figuring about ten snakes to a pound at a rough estimate, I'd say you need roughly eight to ten thousand snakes.

First of all, any snake in the garden can kill you. It depends on the snake. If you live in AZ, it could be a rattler, and 1 would do it. If you are in FL, it could be a cotton mouth, and 1 would kill you. Are you talking about GARTER snakes? They are completely harmless, and, probably, one of the best things you can have in the garden. They'll eat anything that crawls that is smaller than they are. I have all my neighbors trained to get me when they have one. I love having them around. And so do my veggies!

All you need to learn is which North American snakes are poisonous, see a book at a library or buy one. Pit vipers' heads are distinctive, that covers rattlers, cottonmouth, copperhead &c. The only other is the red yellow & black coral snake, red touching yellow kill-a-fellow. My little grandson learned this in minutes at the zoo.
All those other snakes have a job to do. Snakes are generally solar powered.

A Garter Snake is harmless. As a matter of fact, some people think that it is good luck to have them in your garden.
