i enjoy a cold enivronment id say a couple degrees under room temperature. Does central air run a risk of being too hot and me having no control over it?

I don't know the specifics of the dorm room in question, but had I had the choice while living in a dorm, I would greatly have preferred to have some control over my air conditioning. With the central air at the University I attended, once they shut off the heat and turned on the air, that was it for the summer. This leads to those days where the temperature is cool for spring but all you can get is A/C. For me, it was a case of it always being too cold and not in my control, rather than too warm.

A dorm is so small, that it would be most efficient money wise and for convenience to just get a window air conditioner. Make sure to get one with a thermostat on it in order to have better control of the temperature in your room. And possibly an energy saver mode, which will help increase the life of the air conditioner. Also remember though, that unless you are alone in your dorm room, you will have to take your roomates comfort into consideration too.
But, if they have central air you should use that. With central air in a building like a dormatory, you would be too cold before you would ever be too warm. If you get too cold you can always layer your clothing or blankets on your bed.

if u are in a single dorm room, i wouldnt see how u could control intalling a central air/heat unit...we have central air in my house but i still installed a window unit and it works great, the brand is frigidaire and it's an energy saver unit, it came with a remote too, i love the remote. I would just go with a window unit dude.

Who gets a choice of air conditioners at a dorm? Do you even get your own thermostat in a dorm room?
