Okay, I'll be the first to admit it: I'm being a chicken about going to the dentist, but considering the way the last dentist mangled my jaw, you'd be scared, too. Anyway, I have a couple of problems:
Several of my molars have, over time, broken-off down at or below the gumline (old fillings/crowns breaking off). Generally, they cause no trouble, and I brush them. But, one is giving me a bit of a bad time in the last two days, sharp pain that lasts briefly, then goes away. The gums have mostly grown over them. If I have them pulled, will it hurt worse than pulling a normal, non-impacted wisdom tooth? At my age (49) how much pain will I be in afterward? Two days? Three? And would these require surgery, or can the dentist just cut the gum and pop 'em out with an elevator? Last dentist to use an elevator shattered part of the maxilla! OOWWWWW!
Nobody in my family can tolerate gen. anesthesia (we get VERY ill), so I'm pretty scared. I'm also pretty broke!
Serious answers appreciated.

I had an extraction done on Wednesday and today (Monday) it looks and feels as though its completely healed. How is this possible when I heard that the mouth carries the most bacteria of any other place in the body?

I have tried whiskey, salt, milk of magnesium, vinegar etc. Any better remedies? Something not on Wikipedia? I feel ridiculous going to the doctor about this.

I had braces for a while but i got them off about 2 years ago. I didn't wear my retainer for a while and now my retainer doesn't fit. Is there anything i can do besides having to get new braces to either help the retainer fit or make sure my teeth do not go crooked.

I just recently got a root canal done, and i was just wondering if its normal to have even worse sensitivity to cold after a few days of the operation. I can hardly breathe because my teeth hurt due to the coldness of the air. Is this normal? I thought a root canal would take out all feeling in that tooth? Please, any help would... help =)

Hi

When i was 11 i had a filling put in, but it fell out a few days later. After this my mam stopped taking me to the dentist.
However i have a son now, and we thought we should start going to the dentsist again to encourage good habits.
When i got checked i needed absolutly no work doing, so when i has the filling in my childhood, has my tooth miracuolsuly heald itself?? Or are dentists giving treatment when theres actually no need!

I was thinking about it yesterday. Every animal I have seen has a set of straight teeth. Even though some humans have straight teeth, some grow their teeth in extremely crooked. Think about how many people have had braces. Its genetic, I know, but It seems to me that it would make more sense if we all had straight teeth naturally like other animals. Just curious. Your thoughts, please!

U see I'm a 12 yr old girl and in Singapore(My country). Every 12 yr old kid would have to go through an important exam called "PSLE".. My parents approve braces however they are saying that if I get my braces before my exams it would affect my studies..In PSLE...students have to go through a speech examination..As in students have to read a passage, describe a picture and have a conversation with the teacher.. Okay...maybe I should get my braces after the speech examinations. But I should be able to get it before my writing examinations right??? My parents are still saying that I would give excuses like "My teeth hurts so much..I can't study" I know I wouldn't but they wouldn't listen to me... I have to wait till November comes then I would be able to get my braces...the reason why I want my braces as soon as possible is because I wanna get it on and off as soon as possible.... what do u think?? Will braces really affect my studies?? Or will it make me sick? (like wat my parents say?)

My boyfriend has terrible teeth. Some would call it meth mouth, and yes he did smoke meth for a few months quite a few years ago. When he lived with his mom he drank nothing but soda and when he lived with his dad he drank nothing but juice. He rarely drinks water, and his teeth are overly-sensitive to heat and cold. His teeth are basically rotting off, and on the top he has ONE full tooth- which wouldn't be if he didn't have a tooth-colored filling on it. He has 6 full teeth on the bottom and recently got a bottom denture but never uses it because it hurts his gums. On the top his upper teeth break at the snap of a finger - he was eating crushed up peanut butter granola bars and it broke one of his front teeth. It destroys his self-esteem, and I can't help but feel terrible about it. An employer won't even hire him because of his teeth - and we have an 8 1/2 week old son together. He nor his parents can afford to fix it for another 18+ months. What can I do to make him feel better?

I am a 15 year old girl. I do not have an obvious under or over bite. I actually have a slight cross bite, but nothing obvious or really out of the ordinary.

If I do not get jaw surgery and only get braces, I will only have three of my four front lower teeth (Very long story short, I would have an overbite if they didn't pull a tooth.). One will be right in the middle. Noone will notice this, but I am afraid that I will be insecure about it forever afterwards.

If I get the surgery my bite will be perfect. My family has the money for it, but I am scared that getting this surgery would be compleatly vein of me. I am scared that I won't like the results (even though every singly before and after picture I have seen is great!). I am scared that I won't feel like myself afterwards.
