Hello, I have a question for anyone with a GOOD answer, or any dentists who are willing to answer. I have spaced teeth. Okay so there's a space, what if every tooth in the front was a little spaced. Would they have to widen the lumineer to make it fit. What would they do. I would appriciate answers!!!! (appropriate ones)

So I just got my braces today, and the thing is, it's totally killing me, right now, it's hurting so bad, what am I gonna do? What are the do's and don'ts? And when is this pain going to end? What are the types of foods that I can only eat, because eating hard foods is totally forbidden.

I once had an interview for a dental assistant position and choked when the interviewer asked me, "What don't you like about dentistry?" How do you answer that question without it making you look bad?

I had a cavity and went to the dentist on Thursday and had it filled. Once he started getting out the decay before filling it, he said he did not realize it was as decayed much as it was. He really had to do a lot of "digging". He said it was a large cavity but wanted to try save the tooth. He said a little more and he would have had to pull it or other options. But anyway, he filled the tooth. I have never had a filled tooth hurt afterwards. It has been hurting since Thursday afternoon. It is very sensitive to hot/cold and sometimes even when I breath in air it begins to have a dull ache. It is almost a constant dull ache. Tylenol has helped with the dull ache, but again I have never had a tooth filled that has hurt afterwards. Is this normal and will it get better? Maybe it is just extra sensitive right now? What do you think? Help if you can please. (the pain is not untolerable, just aggravating, just a dull ache off and on). Thank you for your answers.

I have quite a few cavities that I need to get filled, and I'm 5 months pregnant. I got two filled the other day, and the dentist told me that nothing they gave me would affect the baby. I called my doctor a few days later just to make sure, and they said it was fine but that it's best to wait until after I have the baby to do it if at all possible. But she repeatedly told me that if my teeth were bothering me I should go ahead and do it. So then I researched it a little online and found that the epinephrine that is combined with the local anesthesia can cause minor birth defects. Should I wait? As far as my insurance goes, it would be much better for me to get it done this year, but my baby's not due until Dec. 24. Do dentists ever offer to give local anesthesia without epinephrine? And what are the "minor" birth defects that it can cause?

I don't know a lot about braces. I've read somewhere that you would have to wear a retainer for the rest of your life after having braces. Is it true?

I got my 2 bottom wisdom taken out on July 17th. There is still a lot of sensitivity and sometimes when I chew the right side of my mouth kind of feels like the gum is separating from my tooth. It feels very inflamed and sore. Is it normal to still be experiencing something like this almost a month later? I hope it's not infected. I have not called my doctor yet because the pain is not unbearable, more like really irritating.

Had my second molar (the one next to wisdom toom) on upper right side pulled five days ago. The swelling of the gum above the extracted tooth has not really subsided, and may have actually gotten a bit larger since then. There is pain, but it comes and goes. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with unbearable pain and had to put a frozen chicken on my face in order to fall asleep again.

There isn't really any bleeding still, but I am most concerned about the gum area above the extracted tooth. The swelling is limited to that area and has not spread.

One last note, when I probe around the area with my tongue, I feel as if there is a little bit of a tear on the gum area that extends from the "hole" where my tooth was to the top of the gum.

Pressing the area with my tongue or finger (outside my cheek) results in pain.

I also feel as if I have a bit of a sinus headache that starts in the center of my forehead and extends down to my nose.

Saturday, no dentist. Smoker.

Hi, my name is Amanda. I have been wanting braces for a very long time. I have a slight overbite and my jaw has been hurting for the past year. What should I do? My dentist has looked at my jaw and couldn't find anything wrong but i've been looking online and it could be because of my overbite. Does anyone have any answers?

For some reason my mouth keeps filling with saliva about 5 hours after the extraction of my two upper wisdom teeth. anyone else has problems with that? I keep having to swallow and im afraid that will cause a dry socket or nock the blood clot out? They told me how painful it would be to get one and now they got me worried. Especially when its the weekend and they arent open on weekends. Anyways i guess the questions are if saliva build up from wisdom teeth removal is common and not just my imagination and if swallowing all the time is a problem to create a dry socket? How much pain should i feel tomorrow? none? cause the bigger wisdom tooth spot is tendor still. thanks and any responces is appreciated.

hi my name is [X] and i am sending you this e-mail regarding my daughter. Her name is [XX] and she has been living in another country for some time and in about 1 year she will be coming back to california to live with me but the problem is that in El Salvador where she is livin her dentist and orthodontist will be starting a treatment on her and it requires two years of checking up but the process of it will end in her having braces put on but the problem is im wondering if the last year or so of the treatment can it be finished here in california which will just be having the regular check ups which require the tightening of the braces and finally removing the braces. Can that be be done here? If you can please get back to me as soon as possible regarding this it will be a great help.

Thank you,

Well i have teeth but theres no point cause when i talk or open my mouth nobody can see it.. its embrassing alot of people point it out to me they say "its weird how we cant ever see your teeth, do you even have any?" and its just humiliating. Plus my jaw is crooked which makes my face and features look crooked. My jaw clicks when i open it and sometimes i get headaches cause of it. I showed it to the doctor but she said its a hard joint to fix and would cost alot of money.. but really i want to be normal and have a nice smile and i want people to see my teeth. Its not like my teeth are small...they aren't but for some reason they just hide behind my lips. :( I have really low self esteem because of it.

Howdy everyone, I just had a root canal done on me on friday (1 week ago today) because of an infection in my root. The actual procedure went without any problems or much pain apart from sensitivity to pressure for the first 4 or 5 days. But 2 days after the root canal my temporary filling fell off. I took great care of not chewing on that side and if i did chew on that side it was very very soft things like pasta and so on. Well i went to get it refilled and they told me not to bite hard on it. Now today like 5 days later it fell off again!!! This time i was even more carefull not to chew on that side although today I ate chicken and chewed on that side by accident but chicken is not that hard! is it normal ffor a temp to last that little?? How long can i wait before getting it refilled? can i get an infection from the open tooth? I ask because i am in the midst of 5 finals and 3 lab final exams and cant keep wasting time going to the dentist back and fourth!

Do they both do the same job? My dentist said that invisalign braces would work for me, but would the traditional metal braces do a better job? Or would the outcome pretty much be the same? thanks!

Sorry if this may sound dumb or silly but just curious....

When brushing your teeth with an electrical toothbrush, do you brush it the same way you'd brush with a manual toothbrush or glide it slowly along your teeth and gums?

My mother recently had a root canal, about 3 weeks ago. She still has the numbness of the tongue and even a burning sensation on her tongue as well. There are also various sores on her tongue, mainly on the tip of her tongue and on the sides. The sores are flat. Can somebody who knows about this kind of stuff please either:

A.) Give a name of a possible condition my mother may have.
B.) List some possible actions we can take to get this taken care of.

Here are some things we've already tried...
Rinsing the mouth out with hydrogen peroxide, rinsing the mouth with an oral cleanser, rinsing the mouth with warm salt water, and icing the tongue.
