when i got it out i saw a chip in the tooth, i thought it was a cavity, could the chip have been caused by my fingernail?

I do drink a lot of soda, which I know causes the enamel to decay, but I brush and floss my teeth, and I use an enamel restoring mouth wash, so I am skeptical that my fingernail is harder than my enamel, but it is strange that I NEVER saw this chip until right after I got the fingernail out. Also, I'm not a nail bitter, I only bit my nail that one time 'cuz my fingernail was hurting my finger tip and i had no trimmers on hand and I desperately wanted the fingernail off.

The chip in your tooth is from biting your fingernails. You're not a kid anymore. :)

HELLO,
THE DENSITY OF YOUR FINGERNAILS IS VERY SMALL AS OPPOSED TO THE ENAMEL WHICH IS VERY, VERY HARD.
WHEN YOU BITE OF SNIP OFF A FINGERNAIL WITH ENAMEL YOU ARE PUTTING A VERY HARD, BUT BRITTLE SUBSTANCE AGAINST A MUCH SOFTER MATERIAL.
THE FINGERNAIL DID NOT AT ALL CHIP THE TOOTH, BUT TOOTH AGAINST TOOTH OR HARD AND BRITTLE AGAINST EACH OTHER WILL POSITIVELY CHIP IT.
PLEASE DON'T BITE YOUR NAILS.

yes it could have.

the cavity could have been caused by the chip or there could have been a cavity and your fingernail just took the top layer of enamel off.

get it checked out with a dentist.

Try removing the tooth with a Pliers. Use a cloth for the blood. The nail should come right out

until you have severely soft teeth your fingernails are not strong enough to chip your teeth
