I need a night gaurd, but I have to wear a retainer at night (if I wear it in the day, I gag). Is there anything out there that I can wear with a retainer? Any dentists or orthodontists out there? My dentist says to ask my orthodontist and the orthodontist says to ask the dentist.

Would you even consider at all using a cosmetic dentist that had this happen to him? I found this Summaries of Regents Actions on Professional Misconduct and Discipline (NY) on a dentist I was considering using. It said he did

Action: Application for consent order granted; Penalty agreed upon: 24 month suspension, execution of last 18 months of suspension stayed, probation 3 years, 100 hours of public service, $30,000 fine.
Summary: Licensee admitted to charge of delegating professional responsibilities to a person or persons when he knew or had reason to know that such person or persons was/were not qualified by licensure to perform the acts; submitting insurance claims for reimbursement for professional services performed by unlicensed persons; and having been convicted of attempted unauthorized practice of dentistry and/or dental hygiene.
Im not sure what to do I just wish I had more details. The penalty seemed pretty stiff when compared to things other dentists did.

I have a tooth that has had a root canal and a cap. I have an infection in that tooth between the bottem of the tooth, not in the roots, and the bone. My dentist said the infection was not in the tooth or in the gum but in a pocket between the base of the tooth and the bone. I have had two rounds of antibotics and the dentest said that I had already started bone loss in this pocket.
I would like to keep the tooth, and I understand that I can not take antibotics indefinatly.
What can I do to get rid of this infection besides pull the tooth?
I gargle with hot salt water every day, several times a day. I brush at least twice a day. I floss every day. I use an antiseptic mouth wash several times a day.
My dentist won't cut the gum to relieve the abcess because he thinks that it would be better to pull the tooth.
Back to my question. What can I do to heal the infection that does not involve antibotics and pulling the tooth?

I was told by an oral surgeon that those types of 'braces' won't really work on someone who is older because the teeth are harder to move than when you're a young teenager. That invisalign will just 'tickle' my teeth instead of really moving them. But I've been to their website and they say that they work for people of all ages...

I am having one wisdom tooth pulled sometime in the next couple of weeks. It is an upper tooth. (I am 35 years old.)The tooth is not impacted. It is broken and has decay. I will be awake during the procedure, with just novocaine to numb the area. The oral surgeon and his assistant said I will not feel pain but I will feel up to about 20 pounds of pressure. This sounds extremely scary to me. Also, he gave me a prescription for Halcion, which he wants me to take before the extraction. I am also nervous about that, as I am very senstitive to medication, but he said all it will do is relax me and that it will also relax my jaw which will make it easier and faster for him to extract the tooth. I want it to be as easy and fast as possible so I am planning on taking the Halcion before my appointment. Has anyone had any experience? I am curious about reactions to Halcion and what to expect to feel when I take it, and about the pain and/or pressure I may feel during the extraction. Thanks!

I've had bad jaw pains when I smile or put my teeth together. My dentist/orthodontist said braces might fix it. Do I really need them? Even if my teeth are close to perfect? (by the way im 14)

Hi M, I'm the one with the gap tooth crowns. Anyhow, the strange thing is that the gap was not there at first,it appeared about a month after, I assume after the swelling went down?

I like the look of the teeth, even bigger, because my real teeth are extra tiny. Is there anything else I can do? Will the cutting of that little flap of skin cause the gap to lessen? I saved forever to have this work done and have since moved out of state, so I cant afford to do it again and my old dentist is all the way on the other side of the country.

As a dentist, if I do choose to address him, what would be the best way in your opinion? Thanks so much for your help!

the dentist I previously used did not use a liner when filling a few cavities. From what I understand this insulates your mouth from hot and cold changes. I had horrible sensitivity for a month and sometimes my mouth would throb so bad it would keep me up at night. I still am sensitive to the cold in these teeth. I learned that liners with certain properties can also help regenerate the tissues inside of your teeth. I was wondering if anyone knew if lack of a liner will cause any longterm damage to my teeth and if I might have to have work done later because of this?
