Root Canal Problems?

Question

I just recently got a root canal done, and i was just wondering if its normal to have even worse sensitivity to cold after a few days of the operation. I can hardly breathe because my teeth hurt due to the coldness of the air. Is this normal? I thought a root canal would take out all feeling in that tooth? Please, any help would... help =)

Also, the tooth is the 2nd from my front, i'll do a "-" for the tooth with a root canal

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and you should not have the type of pain you are describing. Call your dentist first thing in the am and tell him what you said here. If the nerve was completely removed, you should be sore but NOT in pain. If the tooth fractured then you could have pain and this is not a good thing. The tooth will have to be removed. so the two options are, there is still nerve left behind and that is very painful, or the tooth is fractured. You need to find out as soon as possible and make a plan to get this fixed. If the tooth is not fractured, I think your dentist is unaware of an auxiliary canal that is hurting. This is very common on a molar tooth. And only recently have dentists realized this is a possibility. Please call ASAP and get meds and help. You do not deserve to be in pain and be miserable. since it is front tooth, it will only have one canal.

most dentist can remove a single canal.

the cold sensitivity is most likely due to a neighboring tooth being "hyperactive" due to the activity in the area.

Or.... you can have some exposed roots or a cavity in the area.

If it persists more than 2 weeks, see your dentist for an evaluation.

SOME TEETH HAVE LATERAL CANALS WHICH STILL ENABLE THE TOOTH TO FEEL PAIN.
GO BACK TO THE DENTIST AND TELL HIM/HER YOUR SYMTOMS.
