One of our guests is a vegetarian, I want to make sure I offer her enough to eat, while still accomodating guests expecting typical fare. She eats eggs and cheese and knows there will be a real turkey.

Appetizers:
sliced cucumbers topped with edamame spread
Spiced mixed nuts
Cheese, crackers, olives

Main Meal:
Turkey
Gravy (turkey and vegetarian gravy)
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Green Beans and mushrooms
Mashed Maple Sweet Potatoes
Mashed White potatoes
Green Salad
Rolls

Still working on dessert.

I've noticed a lot of people do this? They'll type veg*an instead of vegan. Why do they do that?

Short version of a long story - I have lost 18 pounds in the last few days - mostly due to stress. That is getting under control - but my problem is that I am having some MAJOR PROBLEMS with finding something to eat.

I have found that I can eat veggies - somewhat - and not upchuck - but literally EVERYTHING is bothering my stomach, I mean EVERYTHING. Meat is most def. not an option at this time.

I do know that the one seizure med that I am has that effect - but I don't think it would be to the point that everything is coming up the way that it is.

I need suggestions to get some calories into me that I can keep down. Any and all help appreciated.

I understand that vegan is a type of vegetarianism, but is either of them healthier than the other and are they in fact healthier than the standard nutritional food pyramid? Is there one type of vegetarianism that might possibly be the healthiest? With this I'm defining HEALTHY through the World Health Organization's definition as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health). Any links or articles would be very helpful. Thanks.

It appears that much of the general public has made these erroneous assumptions:

grains = carbohydrates
meat = protein
dairy = calcium

even though no food provides just one nutrient, and no food has a monopoly on a nutrient.
Grains are our most important source of protein AND iron. Eliminating grains in a fad diet has just eliminated your #1 source of protein and iron.

Shouldn't there be a pyramid listing the nutrient and the foods that contain it? And this should be taught to every school kid.

are they a complete waste of time(nutritionally speaking of course)? it is very difficult for me to afford fresh ones but I want to try to get at least 3 servings of vegetables a day.

I don't get it. How is it so hard to grasp not wanting to eat meat? We don't pick on people who don't eat pickles. We don't make fun of people who don't like tomatoes. Meat is gross. It's dead and bloody and rotting...sick. I don't care if someone else wants to eat it, but I don't want dead cows and pigs rotting away in my stomach. It's really not that big of a deal. It doesn't affect anyone else but me. It doesn't seem strange to me either...the fact that so many people still eat meat seems strange. So what's the problem? I noticed one person on here who said vegetarians were the most hated "race" on the planet. lol We're a race unto ourselves now? Awesome.

I've heard different things. I'm a vegetarian and thinking about going vegan, but i'm not sure what they're not supposed to eat.

ok, so, please don't be harsh or rude-i just have to ask a question.

i know that there are different 'levels' of being vegitarian to vegan. so my question is that i've been told i am a 'kind' of vegitarian. i don't eat any kind red meat. i DO however eat pork, chicken lots of veggies, salads, fruits, nuts, beans, pasta and things like that....but am i considered veg. because i don't eat any red meat?

and since i do not eat red meat what can i subsitute for that beings that i am pregnant? i already have an anemia problem and my ex brought to my attention 'if you ate cow your eyes wouldn't be so dark underneath' (jerk...) anyways...

what am i? what could i do?

X3

I'm giving a speech in my speech class (duh!) to persuade them to become vegetarians. I want to bring in a vegetarian dish that hopefully most or all of them will like. Any suggestions?

How can we stop people from eating meat? I am a vegan and I want to do whatever I can to stop people from killing innocent animals. I volunteer at an animal rights group in London (currently in the United States now visiting with my b/f's parents).

I would like to hear suggestions on how to stop people from eating meat because I really think I can do more for the animal rights cause.
