How can we stop people from eating meat? I am a vegan and I want to do whatever I can to stop people from killing innocent animals. I volunteer at an animal rights group in London (currently in the United States now visiting with my b/f's parents).

I would like to hear suggestions on how to stop people from eating meat because I really think I can do more for the animal rights cause.

To each their own... you don't want to eat meat and that's your choice but you will never be able to stop people from eating meat... the most you can hope for is that the animals are treated well whilst they are alive and are killed in as humane way as possible

I am a meat eater and don't think there is anything anyone could do to stop me from eating meat... I hate the idea of animals suffering but I also know that it's nature that animals will eat other animals (and that's what we are at the end of the day, another animal!)

I respect your choices and I expect vegetarians/vegans to do the same for me...

You can suggest non meat recipes but that wouldn't make me cut meat out of my diet... there aren't a whole lot of vegetarian meals I like...

You can't ban it. Meat eaters regard it as freedom of choice!

If you banned it by law then the meat industry would just go underground and be unregulated and unsafe!People could be in danger of eating unsafe or rotting meats , rats, road kill or untold horrors if you banned it!!! As a caring vegetarian you wouldn't want to do that to society would you?

Don't you think it is better to tell people about the positive health benefits of being a veggie?
And at the end of the day let them decide!

The truth is, we can't stop people from eating meat. We can't force our beliefs on other people, but there's nothing stopping us from educating and advising people. People have free will and it's up to them to decide whether they want to continue to eat meat or become a vegetarian after they have received the information we have to offer. The last thing you want to do is force it on people because that will only cause resentment.

Being a teacher I'm slightly biased towards the education thing, but the way I look at it is this: you can advise a student on how to solve a problem, but if you force them into solving the problem then they're not going to learn or want to pay attention.

Education FTW!

How can I get people to eat more meat?

The thing with veganism is that it's a choice. You've made that choice, and are certainly entitled to it. However I have not made that choice, I rather enjoy meat. Once you try to force others to share your point of view you're stepping past your bounds. I agree that even livestock animals deserve to live a pain free life and not be abused. But don't try to tell me I can't have meat just because you have a different point of view.

You cant. Its that simple. You have your beliefs and have made your choices and that's fair enough. Instead of fighting an impossible battle trying to get EVERYONE to convert to veganism. Why not focus your attention towards the cosmetic industry which still uses animals to test its products on. This is far more cruel and far less necessary than the meat industry.

When we can stop them starving to death because there is no meat. A lot of the worlds population in non arable areas is absolutely dependent on fish and meat to stay alive.

I get not eating meat for ethical reasons, but for a lot of the world vegetarian just isn't an option.

my former husband became vegan after he saw what an easy thing it was for me to do. he's the only one i ever saw become a vegan because i inspired them to do it. he saw it was easy, and identified with the animals' rights cause.

i think just having the attitude that people will eat what they want, but that you choose to eat the way you do for X reasons, and not being pushy or trying to judge, is key. people really don't like it and get really annoyed.

i've gotten people to try vegetarianism, who all went back to meat eating.

in all the years i've been a vegetarian, i only had my ex husband actually stay with it.

so, i don't think that most people will "convert" because of anything we say. i think that if they're exposed to the concept that they might think it over and decide for themselves to do it, but they have to do it for themselves and the animals. there can't be pressure from us- it just doesn't work and is counterproductive.

Honestly, I don't eat veggies that much. But I'm trying not to eat meat again. Maybe you should start making veggie recipes for your neighbors then have a little bit of conversation about your concern the time you'll gonna give the food to them.

I think you need to look at other gratifying causes for fulfillment. You certainly can't stop people from eating meat just because you do. I am not a vegetarian but lived with a roommate that was, and she would give me all the pamphlets on slaughtering, etc. I was raised in a ranching environment and I have no problem whatsoever, except for veal. To each their own. She now allows fish and poultry in her diet. It is a losing battle and it is not like people are eating your pets.

if you can show them how to make tasty vegan food many will become vegetarian then you are half way there. I think your previous efforts involving you giving out about people who eat meat were never going to work. you catch more flies with honey than with lemons. (of course you release them unharmed afterwards)
