Is it safe? if a diabetic stays away from meat and/or dairy, everything they will consume will have carbs - which diabetics should limit; so is it a good idea for a diabetic to become a vegan or vegetarian from a health standpoint?

You are always calling your food, "something STEAKS", or "nut BURGERS", or "tofu TURKEY". Sounds to me like you miss the good old days of being able to eat real food, when you weren't all on a self induced guilt trip.

Now, cue outraged replies!

He doesn't have a problem with eating fish. To me, that's not being a vegetarian. My daughter is vegetarian, but she doesn't have a problem with eating marshmallows or other treats with gelatin in them. I don't eat fish or gelatin, deliberately. But some of my medications are coated with gelatin or composed of gelatin capsules, and I can't do without them. Does that make me less a vegetarian?

I'm a strict vegetarian and I don't eat any gelatin, even kosher gelatin from fish. I really miss gummies and marshmallows. Does anyone know where I can get vegetarian ones?

made me sad to see the chettas kill and eat the little antelope. Is there a way to make a vegan food for the cheetas so they will not resort to this carnivorous habit anymore? I say habit because we all know eating meat is bad news and is an addicition.

Ive never had tofu, I heard it has a meat texture? And I hate the feel and taste of meat in my mouth.

I cannot have nuts, rice and seeds because of a stomach problem. So I usually have the following:

Salad
Organic pasta with non dairy butter

and a "sheppards pie" without the hamburg/meat.

Can anyone suggest new ideas please? Since I stopped meat/dairy and junk foods a few months ago I have lost lbs and feels SO incredible. I need new meal ideas so I can continue this. Thanks

This is a repost, but I didn't get much more than "eat more protein" in the Diet & Fitness section.

Original Post:
I need to know if this is a good diet plan to stick with, and if there is anything I need to add or subtract. It wouldn't be the same every day, but this is typical of what I would eat in a day.

5am - 8oz skim milk & a banana
6:30am - package of instant oatmeal and an apple
9am - granola or protein bar
12pm - 1cup brown rice & 1cup blackeye peas w/ 1/2cup fat free yogurt and berries
3pm - pita chips(about 15) & salsa
6pm - potato , steamed veggies, and olive oil / vinaigrette dressing

I've already done the math, and this comes out to about 1800 calories, which is what I want. I work a lot... from 6:30am to 7pm usually, and I don't have a lot of time to work out, so I'm trying to get my diet as healthy as possible. I try to do some at home workouts during the week if I have time, but usually that only happens twice, but I can work out on the weekends.

p.s. I became a vegetarian a few months ago, so that is why there isn't any meat on the menu.

Any help would be appreciated.

Additional Details

I'm not trying to maintain my weight, I'm trying to lose, so that is why I'm aiming for 1800 cal/day.

I just did the calculations for protein. With this sample day, I would get 76.7g of protein. The daily recommended value is 50g. Protein does not mean meat, protein is in potatoes, beans, veggies, rice, etc.

I get not eating meat on ethical grounds, but pretending that eating fish/meat is unhealthy or unnatural?

Our European stone age ancestors were eating a diet that was 70% animal/fish (source of info bone mineral analysis, look up 'Trent woman') and were making it into their sixties with no medical care. How is that unhealthy?

Cattle would supply the largest amount of meat per animal. 1 animal would suffer as opposed to say 50, if it were chickens.

Does that register with vegers or is it irrelevant?

if someone quits eating meat they can save the lives of 100 animals per year.

Considering if I eat beef and pork that would mean I have to eat an entire pig or cow every 3.65 days, how reliable is this information?

Can someone please post links to verify these numbers. I would like to see which veger sites are claiming this impossible fantasy.

Ok for 3 weeks or so I went vegetarian because I had seen a video of a slaughter house, and I was horrified of what I saw, But lately I have been thinking, yes it is wrong of how the animals are killed, but what happens with all of the left over meat that no one buys? It goes to waste doesn't it? So I am debating between go veg. because of the cruelty that the animals face in the slaughter houses, or not to because of the animals that will die and end up going to waste?

I want to become a vegetarian because I hate that we kill animals for food, that's just my opinion but at home I have to eat what I'm given whether I want it or not.
Would I be ok just not eating meats at school for now until I can provide my own food?
