I'm not trying to be mean or say they are not true to their cause but how can they eat it if they think it is wrong to eat a living thing, or that animals are treated badly (I thought chickens got the worst treatment).

Just Curious

my parents wont let me go vegetarian (even those I absolutely cannot stand the thought of eating meat or eating some poor helpless animal). I've always tried to convince them that I wont die if I do go vegetarian (or so they say I will). They've always told me its unhealthy to not eat meat, but I still think its unhealthy to eat meat. Who's right?

I got a bag of black beans, let them soak overnight and then cooked them and they were disgusting. I cooked them and soaked them the way the directions said to so I don't know why they were so bad. Anyway, what bean do you like and how do you prepare it? Thanks!

PS-I'm a somewhat new vegetarian and I'm trying to get my protien that's why I'm asking about the beans. Any other sugestions on how to get protien would be great. Like..how many grams of protien should I be trying to get?

First, I'm not trying to upset anyone - I'm just curious. My family used to have a single chicken in a pen (large) with plenty of area to roam and we used to gather her eggs every day. She produced one unfertilized egg a day and was never fed anything other than regular chicken feed. The eggs would never have developed into chicks because there was no rooster to fertilize the eggs so they woud have gone to waste if we hadn't gathered them. I know some people become vegans for health reasons and others become vegans because of the treatment of animals for food and their effect on the environment. I have the utmost respect for those who have decided to become vegans. Thanks for your input.

I'm curious if this makes me a hypocrite. I'm a vegan, have been for over 2 years The problem is: I am one of those, unfortunately, vegans who work in the restuarant industry. I am the grill chef. Everyweek (6 nights a week), I must cook over a few hundred hamburgers, steaks and chicken. By the end of a nights work, I'm covered head to toe in raw animal guts (cows blood, chicken slime, etc...) to the point of disgust that even meat eaters would be repulsed. Now obviously as a vegan it isn't my desire to be in this position, spending all my time cooking raw animal flesh but i'm only doing this because I've been formally trained in cooking and its the only place within a bicycle ride for empoyment (no car). What I believe the only attributing factor that would perhaps not make me a hypocrite is I only do this to pay my way through college where I am studying nutrition (dietetics) and plan to use my nutrition degree to further veganism. So my question is:
Does the ends justify the means?

... but there are some things that are going to be difficult. Mainly, I usually cook really extravagant/ gormet dinner... always have. What I am asking is where can you find really gormet recipes that are wonderful..... I don't care at all about time in preparation..... but I don't want to give up my cooking talent and I can't very well cook with meat or I will want to eat it.
Can you give me any recipes or sites where they have this kind of thing that is strictly vegetarian?
Thanks.

My favorite is waxy potatoes cut in bite size pieces, mixed with sweet onion [Vidalia here in the U.S.] and dressed with good mayo seasoned with powdered ranch dressing mix. Fast, simple and after it sits in the frig to let the flavors ' marry', it's quite tasty.

I'm naturally skinny, but i eat a lot. I've been thinking of becoming a vegetarian, but if i decided to, would I get too thin? I don't wanna look like I have an eating disorder or anything, and I think I have a really fast metabolism. What would be some good vegetarian recipes that I could use to give me all the vitamins & whatever I need???

I have read that most vegans do not agree with owning pets. I was wondering if that was true.

I just want to say, that it is too late to release any pet into the wild. Rodents will get killed, birds cannot survive, fish will most likely die, dogs & cats will die and could not find enough food, horses & livestock would not know what to do if they were raised on farms.

I'm always put in the position of being the one sitting there not eating anything because every dish contains meat. What's the best way to not be an inconvinience to the people whose house I was invited to for dinner, and not seem rude by bringing over my own food (or is this acceptable)? Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah, it's a pretty basic question. But, I'm curious! So which is it? And which toppings?

I like both, but I prefer a good sweet potato with some light brown sugar on it. Nothing fancy. But delicious!

Do you think Disney has strengthened the vegetarian/vegan movement by targeting young children with it's media?

Think about it, targeting young children with films of animals talking, playing, and having 'humanaly intelligent' conversations with each other. What kind of person would do that?

Was Walt Disney a vegetarian/vegan?

Do you think this is ethical?

(not trying to bash vegetarians/vegans as I am not saying vegetarians/vegans are wrong but rather am asking about 'advertising to children' ethics)

When we eat plants, we are still eating living beings and they do feel the pain. Then, what is the difference between eating 'Meat' and 'Plants'. Tell me in detail, how eating 'Plants' is good than eating 'Animal's felsh'. Or give me the URL of a website that has all the information.

I recently watched some videos on www.peta.com & www.kfccruelty.com and was completely disgusted with the way many animals are treated. I considered vegetarianism a while ago but opted against it as I didnt know much about it. To clarify, I really just do not want to eat meat anymore, frankly it disgusts me, but I would like to have dairy products such as milk and cheese. The only meat I eat is red meat, I dont eat chicken, pork, or turkey. However, I really do enjoy fish. How can I live a healthy lifestyle as a vegetarian (what types of food should I be eating to substitute meat - and what are some ideas for things to make) I am choosing not to eat meat but still want to eat fish, can I still maintain a healthy diet this way?
Any tips will help!

Thanks =)

Some times you see a question that makes you laugh or might be out of line. Why not just have fun with it for a change? Why do you always have to give such rude harsh responses if the topic is a bit off topic. Some of you only answer questions in this 'community' so I just thought maybe something different would make you laugh. I'm not speaking about everyone in this area but I asked the same question a while back in another forum and everyone liked it and thought it was funny and I got some great responses. The only responses I see in here for the most part are ones that you think you're better than the last vegan and you take it to such a higher level and anyone who eats meat is going to hell. I mean lighten up for a change and think outside the squash.
