Butter - Is made with dairy which comes from a cow
Maple Syrup - Is made by boiling the sap of the maple tree

Vegetarians usually eat animal products...so maybe you are trying to be a vegan?

Good luck with either!

10 gallons of sap makes 1 gallon of syrup, and no there are no animal products in maple syrup.

Products like maple sugar, maple butter, maple candy and maple fudge may or may not have milk, butter or other flavours in them.

Generally speaking they are by-products of the maple syrup making process, I am from Canada and have been enjoying real maple syrup for over 40 years, when I was a chef I prefered to use the real thing, it is not a real sugar, like honey it is an invert sugar and has no carbs.

Butter comes from cream which comes from milk which comes from cows.

Maple syrup is the sap from maple trees.

There are different kinds of vegans. Some allow dairy. Some allow eggs. Read up a little more on it.

butter can contain milk. if the ingredients dont list milk, they can list alternatives like casein, whey, and etc. however, most vegetarians arent bothered by this. vegans are, since they dont consume anything that comes from animal.
maple syrup comes from trees, but some VEGANS dont like to consume them because they harm the trees. i forgot where i heard this.
and you can make perfectly fine vegan/vegetarian pancakes and waffles by yourself.. vegweb.com has some recipes. ive made them before. :p

Maple syrup is fine (yay! I love it) but butter is made from milk.

And vegan waffles (and assumedly pancakes, for that matter) DO exist. I buy them at WalMart.

If you are going to be a vegetarian, both should be fine, as neither are the meat of an animal. If you are going to be vegan, than anything from an animal is not allowed. In this case, only butter would be forbidden.

Maple syrup is nothing more than reduced tree sap, hence it is all vegetarian.

Butter is made from cow's milk.

Real butter is an animal byproduct as is Jell-0 (gelatin....this includes gummy type candy), eggs, cheese and a host of other foods.
