I'm not trying to be mean or say they are not true to their cause but how can they eat it if they think it is wrong to eat a living thing, or that animals are treated badly (I thought chickens got the worst treatment).

Just Curious

Because. they are absolutely ignorant.
Not eating red meat only doesn't make you a vegetarian, by any means. Chickens DO have it the worst, and it's horrid that someone would say otherwise.
It's a hypocritical statement to say that you eat other meats, but not beef or pork, for moral reasons.
Takes out all the morality.

Anyone who eats fish or poultry is *not* a vegetarian no matter what they would like to believe. Fish & poultry are animals & I don't understand the 'logic' of anyone who tries to say otherwise. A fish or a bird bleeds just as red as a cow or a pig. For the sake of honesty, I should add that fish & other sea creatures were the last animals I stopped eating-- I'd been so brainwashed by our meat-obsessed culture that I was afraid to go 'cold turkey' & part of my rationale was that sea creatures @ least had a decent life before being captured & killed. Those days are long past.

I think everyone else made it perfectly clear that vegetarians DO NOT eat animals at all, period. I just want to add that it seems to be the prevalent idea here that if someone is a vegetarian they are concerned about animal welfare. While it's true that MOST vegetarians are disturbed by the way most "food animals" are treated there are other reasons that people become vegetarians, particularly health reasons.

I went vegetarian for better health and to live truer to what I believe Nature intended and THEN was exposed to the horrific treatment of animals. You shouldn't assume everyone who's a vegetarian is doing it for the same motivations or that everyone has the same set of rules for their personal diet and lifestyle.

Chickens are treated horribly. I'm a vegetarian because i love animals and i dont' eat ANY meat. My mom is a vegan meaning no dairy or anythign that has to do with animals like gelton.. from horse hooves or whatever so. I'd say cows and chicken are treated the worst. I dont' get how people can call themselves vegetarians when they are still eating meat. Chicken is MEAT.

if you are a vegetarian because you don't like the way animals are treated before they are slaughtered or because you don't want to eat anything with a face then you wouldn't eat poultry or fish.

it's still better for the environment because of the cost to transport the meat if you only quit eating some meats. so if that was your reason then it would make sense.

people that eat only chicken are called polo-vegetarians. (at least i think that could be how it's spelled).

A true vegatarian has moral values and believe that no animals should have to die to nurish their bodies. Poultry and fish have feeling and they feel pain when they are hurt. I am a veg. and I believe that we should all be treateed equaly and if you eat meat you should be put in jail for killing a living things like a human killing a human. In my opionion if you eat meat you can not call yourself a vegatarian. You dont care what dies as long as you get your one meal of meat.

Vegetarians don't eat chicken or fish. Period. The question should be how can they justify calling themselves something that they're not.

By definition, vegetarians do not eat fish or poultry, therefore they are not vegetarian.
