I recently watched some videos on www.peta.com & www.kfccruelty.com and was completely disgusted with the way many animals are treated. I considered vegetarianism a while ago but opted against it as I didnt know much about it. To clarify, I really just do not want to eat meat anymore, frankly it disgusts me, but I would like to have dairy products such as milk and cheese. The only meat I eat is red meat, I dont eat chicken, pork, or turkey. However, I really do enjoy fish. How can I live a healthy lifestyle as a vegetarian (what types of food should I be eating to substitute meat - and what are some ideas for things to make) I am choosing not to eat meat but still want to eat fish, can I still maintain a healthy diet this way?
Any tips will help!

Thanks =)

Hi,...

I actually dont advise u to be a vegeterian at all....Meat is very important for our bodies...U cant have some proteins unless u eat meat.Meat protein is very different from vegetable proteins!! Moreover,..meat provides u with very important minerals and vitamins(such as B vitamins). Vegeterians in general have weaker body builds and weaker immunity!!! And all that fuss about cholesterol and fat in meats is just media talk...that is only true if u eat meat in very high amounts...but if u eat it in moderate amounts ....its very healthy....Who said choleterol and fat are bad?!?!? They arent in moderate amounts.

All kinds of meat are full of benefits apart from pork....pork is very unhealthy....

And about creulty to animals ...u r right...the only uncreul way of killing an animal is the islamic"halal" way....it involves no electric shocks nor pain to the animal( the animal dies completely in 1 or 2 seconds)...and its so healthy due to the fact that it drains all the blood out of the meat...

So,..If u eat "halal" meat..u will be sure that u are eating 100% healthy meat and with no animal abuse at all....

Note: In Islam,... pork meat is prohibited along with alcohol.

Honey, if you eat fish, you wont be a vegetarian. Fish is flesh and flesh is meat. You dont need to "substitute" meat, just eat a healthy well balanced diet and include lots of veggies, whole grains, legumes etc. People in developed countries do not suffer from lack of protein because there is protein in everything. You would have to hardly eat anything in order to be protein deficient. The first posters friend must have had an eating disorder.

If you are including dairy, that even makes it easier. Although it's not the easiest thing for people (even meat eaters) to eat healthy all the time, a vegetarian supplement isnt a bad idea. But unlike what another poster said, you dont need lots of them...just once a day if you arent eating properly...and believe me, it's meat eaters that usually dont eat properly on a daily basis.

Do not listen to the poster below...a medical student would know how to spell...he is a fraud and a fake.

Fish is a meat. You want to become a peskitarian. That's basically a vegetarian + fish.

You can use a lot of things as substitutes. Most of them are made from soybeans. Look at your supermarket for Boca and Morningstar products. There are substitutes for most meat products. ("fake" bacon, burgers, sausage, chicken patties, etc) If you continue to eat eggs, please be careful of the source. Some places are very cruel in their approach. I'm saying this and I switched for health reasons, not animal cruelty issues.

Vegetarianism is large for you, yet would not do lots sturdy for every person else. in case you consume cheese and icecream you're helping veal, and the captivity&slaughter of cows. in case you consume eggs you're helping the harsh chicken industry... i grew to become right into a vegetarian whilst i grew to become into your age and there is *no longer something incorrect with it*, yet once you're worried approximately animal welfare veganism makes an invaluable purchase greater experience. That pronounced! As a vegetarian- sure you may drink coke and tea. The cheese on pizza many times is composed of rennet which isn't vegetarian (it comes from the liner of a calf's abdomen). yet another component to look out for are gelatin in candy and snack ingredients. inventory from chicken and beef is used in many sauces in italian and asian ingredients i eating places. Chips are many times large yet for sure no longer very wholesome. are you able to %. your very own lunches? Or discuss with the college cafeteria team approximately veg recommendations (they might desire to have a minimum of one an afternoon).

my friend was a vegetarian for 11 years, and at the end of the 11th year, she introduced fish back into her diet because she was so protein deprived. she takes alot of supplements that she doesn't get from meat. eating low preotein is hard on the skin and the hair. do more researching before you make your decision. but as for just eating the fish, if you are going to do the no meat thing, i think is a good thing to keep in your diet.

You need a multivitamin, beans and legumes (and lots of them - different variety), soy protein - tofu, soy milk etc. Be very careful - I got very sick - my body stopped breaking down B12, and I had to get shots every other day for a year. Be Healthy and responsible about this - it's a whole different lifestyle - but it's certainly doable! Good luck.

For the most part, farmers do not treat their chickens as bad as those Asian farmers do in the peta video.

Just eat what you like. If you want to avoid poultry, fine. If you want to eat red meat now and then, fine. You dont' have to give yourself a title to eat how and what you want to eat.
